What is the best method for creating important system bookmarks?

If you fly into a new system that you don't have your suite of bookmarks for, what methods do you use to get a good selection of bookmarks quickly before you move on?

The really important bookmarks, such as 150->300km on-grid BMs, gate TACs (tactical BMs) and a sequence of safe spots, can only be made by using multiple warps between various places and BMs. Is there a quicker way to (e.g) get a bookmark about 5000km from a gate, or 250km from a gate with just one jump?

(My current method is to drop BMs in mid-warp and then warp back to them to find out exactly where I dropped it, then adjusting it by warping to it at different ranges, etc.)

I don't travel in low- or null-sec much, but when I happen to be in low-sec I prefer to have a bookmark somewhere within 5 AU from each gate. While most gates are near other celestials, some are not.

I use these bookmarks for directional scan of the gate before WTZ+jump. Sometimes you can see hints of a camp on the other side while looking at direct scan on this side (wrecks and drones are a certain sign).

Also I found useful having insta-undock bookmarks when I was building a dread and had to haul materials to low-sec.
