Align to at less than full speed, will it work?

I seem to be having a problem with 'align to' at less than full speed. I move the speed down because I am in a BS and I don't want to spend all the time to fly all the way back to the gate while in mission. But when I go to warp, sometimes it takes so long (to align to) that I dip low into hull. Are you really aligned if you go less than full speed? Especially if you need to align to something that is not on the same plane as you, for instance if the station is above or below you.

If you want to stay aligned to a celestial but don't want to get too far away from the action, just set the speed to something less than 75% of your top speed. In a BS, you're going pretty slowly anyway, so unless you are fit for short-range, something like 60-70% should be fine. Even being aligned at a VERY low speed is better than not being aligned at all. If you see you're getting too far away from the fight, you can always align to something else in a direction that takes you closer.
