Are ships in the session change timer cloak, after entering a system via a jumpgate, invulnerable?

Just want to know if the session change timer cloak also provides invulnerability to all sorts of weapons, including the AoE ones.

Story: recently we have a really annoying stealth bomber afking in our space and blowing up all the guys who were not paying attention. Huge gatecamps involving carriers with their drones out and HICs, as expected, don't work at all - the bomber just waits for a couple of seconds and burn back to the gate or go straight out of the bubble, and sometimes he even makes multiple passes just to provoke us. I've devised a plan to stop this, and it looks like this:

1) My bomber on this side of the gate, cloaked and aligned to the gate, 30km away
2) On the opposing side there's a huge gatecamp.
3) When the guys on the other side saw him passing the gate, they notify me via corp chat.
4) Upon seeing the message, I'll launch a bomb at the gate and warp away.
5) Check whether I've got him with the bomb. Assuming that moving through the gate takes around 5 seconds by the time he realized what has just happened he would have already been blown up.

The problem is, I'm not sure whether the session change timer cloak also provides invulnerability against AoE weapons - the plan is almost completely useless if it does. What's the answer?

Thanks for helping!

Your plan will not work. First of all, ships are invulnerable during gate cloak so your bomb will not hurt him. Secondly, the flight time of a bomb is 10 seconds, plenty of time for the bomber pilot to realize what is going on and warp off. And finally, there is no guarantee that a single bomb would kill a bomber even if you could hit it.

Your best bet at killing him would probably be something like one or more very fast locking artillery Thrashers. Fit for maximum alpha damage at a suitable range and throw as many sensor boosters on as possible to make sure you can lock him fast. You should be able to one shot him before he gets back to gate or warps off.

Well, to be more specific, you’re invulnerable and cannot be bumped or decloaked whilst you’re holding your cloak after jumping through a gate. The cloak lasts 60 seconds. It’s similar to the station undock invulnerability.

Thanks! My original plan is based on the rough estimate that going through the gate (starting from when he’s bumped by the gate and uncloaked) takes roughly 3 seconds (and the bomb would have been launched then), 1 second for the loading progress bar, 2 seconds before control’s available and 2 seconds readjusting & checking the surroundings. Assuming that he would take action after 8 sec… the bomb would be able to hit him. Sorta purely by luck. I’ll ask my corpmates to try the sensor booster cane and see if we can get him…

Remember that lock time is more important than damage in this situation. As long as you have enough alpha to kill him (~2500+) you should be good. Try remote sensor boosters from fleet mates as well to get lock time down to the absolute minimum. If the Thrasher pilots are decently quick they should be able to get a lock before he re-cloaks towards the gate.

As established by CanHasGank here, mechanics mean your plan won't work.

Here are some other solutions.

  1. Get a few quadruple sensor booster artillery Hurricanes, as well as a couple of interdictors and Dramiels/interceptors. Decloak him as he burns back to gate or tries to burn off, then pop him.
  2. Don't PvE when he's around. Eventually he'll get bored and leave.
  3. Get a cloaky something and camp his space. Amazing what giving someone a taste of their own medicine can do sometimes.

If you’re the guy in the bomber, there is rarely need to warp to your tactical bookmarks at zero if you just need to check out the party at a gate. Ideally you should have multiple bookmarks spaced > 150km apart.

Thanks. Yes, we’ve got a few inty/dic/dramiels with us but they have problems decloaking him. Seems like he has a deadspace mwd and by the time we manage to decloak him he’s already by the gate, and jumps through then. We’ve sent our ratters to other systems, but he sitting here is still a nuisance that has to be dealt with. And the last part, yep, our bombers are already sitting in their space.

Carriers camping for a single stealth bomber ? Use a few interceptors / faction frigates and he will be dead in a few seconds. Bombers are paper thin toys, he shouldn’t be able to slap you in the face so easily !!!!

Cannot edit but… if he is reckless : add de pull bubble + a few cans to uncloak him in the incoming system, if he was stupid enough to warp straight, he will be dead ;) You also might want to stay cloacked in that system and see which side of the stargate he arrives from. Most will have a safe spot 200 / 300 km up / below the stargate to avoid bubbles and assess the situation on the gate before jumping. You migh be able to figure out where his safe spot is :)
