Are SPs added to your toon in realtime or after a skill is completed?

I've noticed that when training a skill the SP trained will count in realtime towards the skill itself, but the total for my toon does not. At what point does SPs apply to your toon?

After that skill has stopped training? After the skill is completed? In realtime?

SP are added only when skill is either complete or paused. However, when checking for exceeding over 1.6 millions SP (that's when newbie training bonus disappears) it is done in real time, so you can not train your skills up to 1.599 millions sp, then switch to a long skill and keep the bonus - bonus goes away the moment your total SP are over 1.6 millions.

Oh ok so does this also include updates adding/changing the order of the skill queue? as only time I open my character sheet is to make these changes which would explain why it appears as periodic updates for me?!

Applying the changed queue – probably. Just opening it – no, at least that’s what I see – having a 9-days long skill in training and regularly opening the queue, even adding and removing something, but not applying – the total number of SP is still the same.

Just tested it – I had about 59.8 millions of sp and nearly half-trained Marketing V (768k total). I added a short skill in the front of the queue and checked total SP – no changes. I hit “apply” and total SP was renewed – I’m over 60.1 millions SP now.

CanHasGank is correct.

Particularly if you are worried about exceeding your clone, pay close attension to your sp.

If you are worried about your SP level, check it on EVE gate.

I'm not sure if it is quite real time, or if it is once an hour or something (due to api constraints of evegate) but I have had messages half way through training a 10 day skill that my clone has been exceeded on evemon, and sure enough when I log on that night I'm past my clone :(

SP will be added when either of these things happen:

-a skill completes
-you pause your skill training
-you add another skill to your skill queue, or other wisely makes changes to your skill queue, causing it to update by hitting the 'apply' button in the skill queue window.

However, with programs like EVEMon, you can view your total SP in real time, without making changes to the game itself.

how SP is calculated clone-wise, i'm not sure, but i would imagine clones working on total amount of SP, regardless of what your total SP appears to be in your character window.

I’m not sure this is correct. As you can pause a skill half way through and the skill points will be there… I believe they are added in real time, but the displayed total doesn’t update until a skill completes. Guess this sort of depends on your point of view.

it seems i wasn’t entirely correct :(
it’s true that SP will be added when you pause your skill training, but they aren’t added in real time – only when you pause your skill training, or add another skill to you skill queue and click ‘apply’.

actually i wasn’t thinking of SP in the matter of clone grades, but now that Matt mentioned it, i have to say im not sure whether or not your total or current amount of SP will matter when it comes to things clone-related. i would imagine your total amount of SP is what matters, in the sense that having a 10mil clone, with a current SP of 9.9mil, while almost finished with a skill exceeding your clone limit, will count as having too much SP for your current clone, and hence loosing SP upon death – even though your SP amount seems to be fine in the character screen, because it hasn’t updated.
