Are there rules to prevent "littering" when trying to decloak ships?

I've just read an excellent document aimed at teaching bubble placement to younglings (it is still draft, but it will be out there soon!)

One thing it says is with respect to decloaking ships: A cloaked ship can be caught in a stop or drag bubble, but it is likely that everybody camping the bubble will be completely unaware of the cloaked ship. The document states that you could litter the area between the bubble and camped celestial with corpses and cans to decloak any cloaked ship that gets within 2000m of any of your litter.

I seem to remember that littering like this was a bannable offence because an excess of objects on the grid can cause lag for the people just coming onto the grid, but I can not find that written down anywhere. Can anyone tell me if my memory is correct? And possibly provide a linky to the rule?

Actually there are rules to prevent you from doing this. This is CCP's stance via GM message:

1) spamming a ton of cans around the gate is causing lag therefore it's an offence. 5th warning = ban.

2) it is not an exploit in the true sense of the word

3) placing a small number of cans or whatever (bodies, drones, ships, jetcans you name it) on bubbles, warp in vectors, to decloak people is OK and part of the game mechanic.

However it IS open to interpretation. It's a grey area... be careful.

My message wasn’t clear, nothing prevent you from doing it as there are no game mechanics that disallow you to do so. So you CAN do it, but there could be consequences.

As you stated, it’s grey and open to intepretation as “tons of cans” isn’t really clear. 10, 20, 50 ? What’s please CCP define “tons” :D

Good Question Harlock, when interrigated by one of the CSM’s I know CCP didn’t give a straight answer except to say if there is more than a few cans on a bubble it starts to have an exponential effect on latency. I would go with no more than 3 on a bubble then you can only be safe…. Whats more, in all likelyhood you only need one or two can’s due to the fact that most warp paths follow a very narrow cross section. Get all your fast tackle to test the bubble. then get the ones that land more than 2km apart from each other to drop 1 can and your done.

^^^ Disclaimer, it’s only what he told me, this is of course second hand information. Knowing CCP they probably changed their opinion already :) be safe don’t drop anything. Our fleet uses fast tackle as the cans! Have them sit on bubbles edge aligned out MWD on and there you are.

To answer your question : There are no rules preventing you from doing so.

It is said that's it's a bannable offense, but your victim would have to petition for it, and it's unlikely you would get banned for it as far as I know.

I personnaly think it's a cheap and unfair way to play, as such we dont do it and play legit trying to uncloak you using our ships and drones.

Oh by teh way mate, drones won’t break a cloak any more. This was changed a few months back :–)

This is true, drones used to be attached to fast tackle to improve the decloaking surface area. CCP made them so they don’t decloak things must be a year or so ago now. Fast tackle still gets the drones now but it’s for reasons of quick fire down range rather than for decloaking. Everyone sets drones on agressive and to assist tackle, then when tackle gets instalock and activates his point (agressive modules) all the drones put dps on the target immediatly.

I can't recall anyone ever getting banned for this. I believe it's one of those rules that is never enforced.

I think it's designed to prevent people from going overboard, like putting hundreds of objects around a gate or something like that. 10-20 items on the catch point of the bubble is fine.
