Benefits of Guns vs Missiles for pvp

What are the benefits of using guns or missile over the other for pvp? Not taking into consideration that different ships have bonuses for different weapons.

Ignoring the bonuses, the main advantage of guns (most of the dedicated pvpers claim this unarguably places guns on top on top) is that their damage is instant. You fire, and it hits, without delay. Meaning that in a skirmish, if one ship with guns fights another ship with missiles, each with the exact same damagetype, range, and dps, the gun ship will always be two steps ahead, because he started placing his damage first.

If they have the same health, that means the missile ship will die before firing the shots that would have ended the gun ship.

Missiles have an advantage for some races in that they can fire any solid damage, which I am led to believe Amarr and hybrids have an issue with. Minmitar and Drones are immune to this, because they can also be selected to fire essentially any ammo type for the same damage (not so much in minmitar's case, as they're lacking a kinetic T1 high-powered variant.)

Missiles are excellent weapons for PvP. They have versatility for damage types and do not have to worry about tracking, optimal, falloff, or capacitor use, so they can be extremely deadly to ships like the Arbitrator, Curse, and Pilgrim, which rely on cap warfare and tracking disruption to win engagements. As long as the target is in your sphere of death, you'll hit.

As an added benefit, using FoF missiles, you can still damage an enemy even when you're jammed.

They do have their own issues however. First of all, the higher damage missiles (heavies, heasy assault, cruise, torps) have problems damaging targets that are small and moving quickly. This is due to their explosion radius and velocity attributes - the effects of these are too much to go into detail here, but you should read up on them and understand how they work.

Missiles are also looked down upon for large scale, at-a-distance fleet battles because of their flight time. In practice, this really isn't much of an issue. Here's why:

For solo and small gang PvP, you're going to be in point range which is generally 24km or less. At these ranges, missile flight time is small enough that it simply isn't a factor at all and can be ignored. For large fleet battles, missile ships will concentrate on secondary and tertiary targets because the primary target will often be dead by the time the missiles get there. So, they will often end up dealing less damage overall than turret ships, but they're not at all useless.

TL;DR: Good: No tracking/optimal/falloff/cap use issues. Selectable damage types. Fire while jammed. Cons: Large missiles have difficulties hitting small and fast targets. Missile flight time can be a problem at ranges of 100km or more.

In gangs where you have one to web/scrambel and take the power from the capacitor. It can be a good thing to have assualt missiles but if the situration is something else guns are (as the others says) better. (I am not pro or skilled or anything. This is what I think and what I know)

F.o.F. Missle can help in situations where you're sensor jammed/damped although the target is random at least you're still hitting stuff.

Guns are much better for PVP than Missiles. Most PVP battles take place at various ranges, however the majority of them are at ranges outside of 50KM. The flight time for the missile to get to the target often will keep you from getting on the KM. As the other pilots in the fleet with primary and take down the target before your missiles get the hit. For solo PVP, usually by the time the missile gets close to the target, it has warped, or moved outside of the missiles range.

Missiles have the definite disadvantage of the flight time while they have one very large advantage by not having to deal with tracking disruption - rendering one form of E-War completly useless against them. Otherwise it boils down to what has already been said.
