Almost every cruiser in-game can make an excellent pvp candidate with specific tactics and fitting. Look at the t2 versions of the same cruisers. What do they excel at? In most cases, the t1 brethren can fulfill the same role with reduced efficiency. Personally, I fly all racial cruisers on a regular basis; it’s fun to mix it up. Here’s some random examples of fun solo pvp contexts.
Want to be a fast gate runner that can chew up inty’s? Fit a stabber like a vaga and watch it go. Want something that can take a punch to the face and make quick work of other cruisers? Fly a rupture or thorax with webs. Try out a vexor or arbitrator with plates, lots of ewar and neuts.
Want to fly falcon? Start out with a blackbird, although it’s rather hard to kill anything with one. But you can fit a mean shield tank and tackle if you forego ecm; making you terrific as bait. Mallers are almost always bait, but you can use that to your advantage and go for all gank.
Your carebears are being beset upon by dramiels and its brethren? Grab something with dual (or triple webs) and a scram. Both a caracal and celestis with 5 med slots can do this. Or even a blackbird (may need support dps) or arby (2x webs, scram, ab, neuts, plate).
