BS Soloing L4s with only Sentries viable?

I overheard that the only drones you need are L5 trained sentries when soloing L4s but since I never tried, I am curious to know if the sentries can track the elite frigs as my BS/Arty certainly can't. What do the sentries do if the elite frigs are in tight? Can they still hit them and if so, why???

The sentries will not help you once the frigs are close. Curator II's have the best tracking/shortest range and wont hit them.

while the frigs are comming in, you can hit them w/ sentries and pop them.

However, have a rack of t2 lights to handle the 1337 frigs.

Btw IDK your race, but here's wat is good to have in drones: [speed train in brackets]

  • Drones 5 [5]
  • Scout Drone Operation 5 [5]
  • Combat Drones 4 [3]
  • Drone Interfacing 4 [3]
  • Drone Sharpshooting 4 [2]
  • Drone Navagation 4 [2]
  • RACIAL drone 2 [2]

Then Sentries:

  • Sentry Drone Interfacing 4 (5 for T2)

And Heavies:

  • Heavy Drone Operation 4 (L5 + RACIAL L4 for T2)

“The sentries will not help you once the frigs are close. Curator II’s have the best tracking/shortest range and wont hit them.” Whilst I agree with the principle of this, it should be noted that this is only a problem if you are close to your sentries. If you move a decent distance away from the sentries, 20kms or more I’d say, then they will still work as the frigs will be orbiting you. I would recommend fitting a Drone Navigation Computer as they work very nicely with sentries.

Would agree with RedMage. Have done level 4s for many years with t2 sentries and a few lights for those pesky frigs – make range asap in the mission if needs be and you can usually pop everything small before it gets too close. Alternatively my other half likes to drop his sentries and speed tank in his HAC, can be tricky with respawns/agro switching but if you know the missions well it’s not really an issue.

I'd use heavy drones. I know ishtar pilots tell tall tales about sleeping thru worlds collide with the sentries doing all the work. IRL it doesnt quite work like that. Drones get aggro, you have to crawl to them from 20km and try to grab them before they turn into space dust.

I normally use T2 Heavies (Ogre IIs) instead of sentries, because of pesky enemies that like to get close (Angels). Sentries can be fantastic at range.

I'd suggest that either way, carry some light drones to take care of frigates.
