How many frigates do you think it would take to efficiently take down a competent battleship (megathron, apocalypse, etc) within 1-2 minutes max.

TL;DR:
About 8-10 frigates should be able to kill a BS in under 2 minutes.
Example:
As an example a buffer fit Megathron will have around 100k EHP and most frigates do around 100 DPS if fit for gank. This means it would take a single frigate roughly 1000 seconds (17 minutes) to kill a buffer Mega. Two frigates would need about half that time, around 8 minutes. Four frigates would need roughly 4 minutes to do the same job. To kill the same Mega in under two minutes you would probably need at least 8 or 9 frigates.
Solo:
That being said, killing a battleship in a solo frigate is not an impossible task by any means.
You will have to get in close and orbit faster than his guns can track. Obviously missile ships like Ravens will be a problem here, but if you're active tanked, you may be ably to tank the tiny damage his torpedoes or cruise missiles do to your tiny frigate hull.
Drones will be another issue. You will have to kill his drones to be able to survive long enough to kill him. Obviously ships with huge drone bays and lots of spare drones will be an issue. Dominixes or Typhoons are examples here.
Additionally a lot of battleship pilots will have a heavy neut, witch is a problem since it will pretty much drain your entire cap in one go, disabling your point and allowing him to escape.
However, as you can see, with a little luck and decent piloting (stay out of smart bomb range) one frigate can easily kill a battleship under the right circumstances.
A small group of frigates can pretty easily kill a battleship if the pilots make sure to kill his drones before they start working on the tank. Again, heavy neuts are a problem, but not an impossible one to overcome.
you have to consider the tank dps of the BS. if it’s a passive shield user, the shield’s recharge rate could change everything. a lone drake for example (not a BS, i know), could stand against 8-10 100dps-frigates, without breaking a sweat, or having to worry about cap or anything else. a 1000-tank-dps drake would take 10 of your frigs to break its shield recharge, and then they could start doing damage to it, with an 11th frigate. and this is not even counting what fire power the bigger ship has. it all depends on how it’s fitted. maybe it’s fit to hunt smaller ships, with rigor rigs, eg.
Well my example wasn’t a passive shield Drake now was it… The OP asked for BS, so I provided a realistic example.
i know he didnt, but he didnt ask for an unfit BS either. i was just giving an example of how different fits can change battles, and that even a smaller ship like a drake, could last very long against lots of frigs. simply putting things in perspective.
just saying you didnt take shield/armor regen/repair into consideration. at least if i use EFT, shield regen isnt in the EHP calculation.
also, what my main point is, whether its clear or not, is that different fits can make all the change in the world, and that you cant always trust some rule or idea on how BS’s will respond to other ships. only saying that he should trust any ‘one’ thing anyone tells him. but thats not to say your respond was bad.
You are correct in that there are situations where things would look different. This was, as mentioned, an example.
