Can you scan down cargo containers?

I've been spamming directional while passing through some systems and have realized that there are containers safed up along the way. Is it possible to find safed containers with probes?

nein. at least not easily. scan probes if i remember rite can not be scanned down with probes, however if you REALLY want to get to a can, it can be doable.

the only way to get on grid with non scanable things is to get a reference point between them if possible (2 planets on either side of them) and warp between those planets scanning until you know ROUGHLY where they are. you then create bookmarks between the two celestials, and do directional scans. how you get closer to your target is you spam the warp button until your almost completely empty on cap, and then you do a partial warp to get closer to your target if that makes any sense. it is a VERY complicated and drawn out process but it is doable.... and i have killed a few "unscanable" T3s that way hahahahahaha

As an additional point to the good answers already given:

If you ask your question from the point of view of "if I drop a can at a safespot then can it be found" then never underestimate the power of naming your can something innocuous like "Planet VI". Lots of times this will be overlooked in the directional scanner.

Except a planet will give a 3.2 AU distance reading and the can will be mixed in with the things that are unknown distance so it will stand out quite a bit.

Kind of like naming you’re ship after celestials. No point, It still stands out.

Actually, doing this is a great idea because people make careless mistakes all the time in the heat of the moment. Why would you not do this?

Yeah, there are a few rough tricks to getting to it, like mentioned, but they're incredibly time-consuming, and aren't always successful. Get proficient with your directional scanner and try to get close to them, then just rough it out like the above answer said :) If you have time to burn
