Capital ship Travel

What are the ways to get a Dreadnaught moved across the universe?

I only have 6 months in game and have acquired a Dreadnaught, I'll need another 6 months before I can properly fly it. Unfortunately it is on the other side of the universe from my home system (I live in 0.0) it is in Low Sec. I would like to get it close to home so I can gaze upon it in wonder. I guess it can't be contract shipped, I think it can't go through wormholes, do I have to wait to be trained up, then get a team of Cyno guys together to light a path along Low-Sec? Any advise would be appreciated What I am asking for here are my options.

There are no capital ships, excepting the sub-capital Orca, that will fit in a Freighter's hold even with max skills so you can't even courier it.

At over 15 million cubic metres unpackaged won't fit in a Mothership's 2.5m m3 Ship Maintenance Bay either so the only way to move it is to fly it.

Yes, get a line of cynos prepared with appropriate points (use ICSC's Jump Planner) and have multiple cyno ships ready at each stop with fuel in the hold. Also make safespots and bookmarks to ease your way. I usually make mine at the back of the station just off the docking ring. Be prepared to lose your cyno ships as they are sitting ducks for 10 minutes so make the fits cheap.

Additional: You can use wormholes if they will accept enough mass but you'll need to lucky enough to find one going in the right direction in the system you are in.

Hmmm, funny never thought of a wormhole…. Ingenious. Problem I see is that even if you do get a wormhole big enough with sufficient mass available, and that it has an exit in the right direction easy to find, due to size of the Dread, doesn’t it have to pass through W-Space, system link wormholes are never capital ship size are they? I certainly have never seen one. Of course going through W-Space is not a good idea unless you are 99.9% certain it is empty.

Indeed good points. Unsure on the low sec to low sec wormholes as I haven’t attempted to take a capital through one. You would indeed be lucky to find wormholes going where you need.

Given your skill level and it's a dreadnaught, you are best off trying to sell it. Dreads alone are in deep trouble if they get tackled by even a small gang of sub capital ships. Only the Moros with very good drone skills stands a chance at fighting off a subcap gang. Carriers stand a much better chance at fighting off a subcap gang.

If you've never flown a jump capable ship, you should also practice how it works on the test server. Doing a long cyno chain is going to be difficult, hazardous and an opportunity for Murphy to strike.

Depending on the 0.0 alliance you're with, Dreadnaughts tend to either end up being hanger queens or just used for POS bashing - but now and then moments of terror trying to take out other capital or super capital ships.

tl;dr - Sell it and buy something more fun to fly for now.

I hate to agree with this, since I love my dreads, but… they’re rarely used nowadays, and aren’t likely to be with seige mechanics the way they are currently. It’s probably better to sell it and buy a carrier.

Personally, you have a 2 options

Sell it

Wait till you can fly it.

Option 2 is really only viable if.... 1) you can plot a course where you are either in Blue territory and can use safety of POS shields between jumps or 2) can jump from station system to station system (this one is preferable). If you don't have one of these don't even attempt it, once you get a warp disruptor on you, you can't jump out, you can't warp and you won't have the ability to hit a sub capital back.

Logistically you could get a cyno chain up for fast moving, or you can go one system a night and scout the systems properly, up to you really depends on the time you have. Either way don't bother till you have Jump Drive Calibration and Conservation to at least 4 preferably 5 on the former.

Modes of Travel for Dreadnaught.

1) Jump Drive via Cyno ship

2) Jump Drive via Cyno Beacon

3) Jump Bridge (depends on your alliance, best warn them before taking something that big through, and remember to put some liquid Ozone in to replace what you used) only good manners :)
