Did I get a wrong factions story mission?

So I'm an Amarr newb (1.2m skill points) running missions for Chemal Tech, a Gallente corp because eventually I want to run missions in Domis. Love drones. I've been running missions for a few days, stupidly with low Social and Connections but working to fix that, for a Chemal Tech guy, L1-15Q, trying to get my standing up to where I can run L2 missions. Recently I got offered a story mission by Sysbrenins Carecanne of the Nugoeihuvi Corp, which is a Caldari corp. Troop Build Up is the mission. It involves going into low sec space and blowing up Gallente ships as near as I can tell. This seems a really horrible idea given that I'm trying to get faction with a Gallente corp. What gives? From what I read story missions are the quick way to get faction, so why am I getting offered missions that aren't for the faction that I was running missions for? Or am I way off base?

Please don’t confuse “get standing” with “get faction”. Faction refers only to the coalitions of corporations; if you start referring to standing by the same word it gets confusing, fast.

Well technically faction standings are standings too… :P

You don't need standing with Gallente to fly their ships. If you want to fly a Dominix, you simply need to train the required skills. Also if you are Amarr and like drones you should take a look at the Arbitrator cruiser.

If you are offered a mission that you don't like for whatever reason, remember that you can freely decline missions once every four hours per agent without penalty.

If you ran 16 missions for a Gallente corporation (which you did, if running missions for Chemal Tech) then you should have been offered a storyline mission from a Gallente corporation. Getting an offer from Nugoeihuvi is definitely wrong unless you have somehow been missioning for a Caldari corp without noticing.

I would petition this; chances are you will be given a correct storyline that will increase your standings with Gallente as you desire.

Where did you get the idea that Sysbrenins Carecanne works for a Caldari corp. She works for Transtellar Shiiping, which is a Gallente corp, and therefore quite correct

Just a tip, for this sort of comment use the “add comment” link under the particular answer it relates to. Thanks!

Adding a comment requires 50 rep… so Simian would not be able to do so yet.

Because the whole story agent thing is messed up. Also since you're working for Chemical Tech you will be getting reputation for them and NOT the Gallente Federation (so you won't get navy ships ETC). There fore blowing up Gallente for a Caldari corp is in no way messing with your standings because neither of them are the official empire corp.

This answer is almost completely incorrect/misleading. You cannot work directly for the Gallente Federation; normal missions only give you standing to a corporation, and the corp’s alignment determines which storylines you receive. Chemal Tech is a Gallente corp, so will gain Gallente Federation standing at the same rate as any other Gallente corp (one storyline per 16 normal missions). Blowing up actual Gallente Navy ships will lower your Gallente standing. Finally you don’t need Gallente Federation standing to fly navy ships, and Chemal Tech stocks the ships in the loyalty store.
