Faction War and NPC standing hits for taking part

Asked by [ Editor ]

As I understand it, when you take part in Faction War and engage in PvP you suffer NO Faction standing hits.

But when you take part in Faction War missions and FW Plex flipping (ie shooting enemy fw NPCs) you can gain friendly and loose enemy faction standings.

This means that in theory, if you were running missions for Caldari NPC corps and you then went into the Gallente (or Minmatar) militia, you would be fine to return to Caldari space once you left Faction War and resume your pve activity - providing you had simply PvP'd and not taken part in missions or plexing.

Is this correct?

OK I'll answer myself - did some digging around and my initial thought process appears correct.

If you take part in just shooting other players you don't need to worry about standings - but if you decide to join in with the FW Plexes and Missions then you will start to take faction hits for the opposing militia - so avoid that if you plan on going back to enemy high-sec for peacefull activities some day.

In addition you take quite a large Faction standing hit if you shoot down members of your own militia!

You can get bad or good standing in both sides.

One way to do it easily (if you have friends on opposing FW you actually trust): One can belong in FW either side but still also belong to the fleet that is doing FW mission for the opposed FW team. This actually is sometimes happening since some LP store items are nicec to have even if you are in enemy camps.

Yes, with conditions. It is my understanding you can shoot red player-pilots anywhere in space with no standing loss. However, if you pvp and shoot yellow and/or NPC* pilots (even if the NPC is red), your standing is altered accordingly.

  • How do you shoot NPC in PVP? You ask because, by definition, PVP means player vs player, and NPC is non-player. Easy, I say - by accident. If you are in a gate camp and accidentally warp scram a gate gun, your standing changes. grin And you get shot.

Sorry I don’t think you understand my question. You do take Faction standings for shooting friendly militia in FW – even if they are GCC/-10 (it’s a real pain in the butt).

Also the NPCs I am referring to relate to the Faction War missions and tactical site flipping – which require you to shoot NPCs. Whilst not pvp persay, it is closely related due to the setting and mechanics of FW.

But my question here is about loosing Faction standings if you simply stick to the pvp side of Faction War and avoid the missions/site flipping.

From my personal experience, I did not receive a standing hit when I shot the enemy faction in pvp. Does that clear it up. :)
