Going back and salvaging L4s

If I don't have an alt to salvage and am using a Raven, is it worth it (Isk/hour) to go back and salvage with another ship?

(Assume the Raven doesn't have a Salvager fitted)

I tend to find that the value of the salvage and loot usually equals 60-80% of the reward+bounty+value-of-LPs for the mission.

A destroyer or battlecruiser (e.g. hurricane, as amarrahh mentioned) fielding 4 salvagers and 4 tractors, with MWD and numerous cap rechargers, can clear most wrecks from the field very quickly. Also gives you a break between missions which can only be good in the long run.

You can sell on the loot, although it is a lot of effort to maximise the reward for that. So I usually reprocess the loot for the minerals which tend to give a slightly better ISK return. (Except meta 4 and above items, as they are often useful to keep or better to sell on.)

The salvaged items, after a few missions, can be sold on for a fortune at your local trade hub, or you can make even more ISK by using them to create rigs for yourself or to sell.

Of course, this is what is known as farming the missions and is the Eve Online equivalent of "grinding". To each his own, though. :)

  1. If you are good at tanking level 4's, sit still at one point and allow the mission ships to gather arround you thus creating a close group of wrecks.

  2. If you are into manufacturing including making your own rigs etc then salvaging level 4's is well worth the effort for some of the larger missions like "Blockade", "Mordus Headhunters" and "Angels Extravaganza". A dedicater salvaging Hurricane with T2 salvagers, Salvage rigs and cargos extenders in lows can clear most sites quickly and in one go.

  3. An Orca salvager is another option if your wrecks are spread about as the tractor range bonus enables you to get most of the wrecks to you however the lack of high slots means ony two tractors and 1 salvager.

I've found that, if you are reasonably skilled with your mission ship, many missions aren't worth salvaging.

Sansha, Angel and to some extent Blood Raiders are the only missions I really bother to salvage and even then mostly just the battleship wrecks and the odd battlecruiser that I hapen to pass near.

Drones are usually worth looting, as they don't have bounties. You'll need a good sized cargo hold though (pulling a can around behind a destroyer and then picking it up with an industrial works, if less than optimal).

A tip on salvaging destroyer: I've found that I usually run out of cap when running 4 tractors and 4 salvagers for some time. Thus I replace one of salvagers with nosferatu to replenish my cap drawing it directly from wrecks I'm salvaging.

Are you sure this works and it’s not your imagination?

I can see that each nos cycle gives me a burst in cap recharge in addition to its own slow regeneration.

Depends how fast you can clear missions.

If you fit a frigate for salvaging, you can quickly rush back and clean up the battleship wrecks and be done in a few minutes.

Salvage destroyers tend to be used for cleaning up the whole mission, but depending on how fast you can blitz missions, they may not be worth it.

I suggest you try with a salvage-fit Rifter or something, and see whether it's worth it for you.

If not, ask in local (or contact someone from Suddenly Ninjas, ha!) for a salvager to clean up for a share of the salvage.

You want to be careful about inviting people to fleet with you, even in highsec. It saves a huge amount of effort for the mission-runner gankers if you give them a warp in.

Once you're doing Level4 missions a BC such as the Hurricane makes a good salvager, if it all fits in a single trip in a destroyer it probably wasn't worth doing. I think I got 13million in selling salvage/loot straight to highest bidders in hi-sec from Angel Extravagaza, only had one named item :(
