Recently I've been in a 0.5 system, when someone in local claimed that someone had left some loot in wreck that would sell on market for a couple of hundred million, supposedly some faction stuff.
Is that even possible? I though officer spawns (if it was one such) wouldn't happen in high sec?

Maybe that someone was doing DED sites in high sec. It is possible to get 4/10 DED sites (in 0.5 system) with some nice loot.
Officer spawns and their loot are limited to null sec and very rare.
Hi, yes you cani ndeed get 4/10 rated plexes and below in Empire, however in this specfic instance I believe hte OP is referring to belt rats (faction spawns can occur in Empire as others have stated!).
Actually, I don’t whether it was from a belt rat or some special DED rat. The system was Deltolle, where you can find the Galentean Skeleton Comet, so it’s possible it happened there. It didn’t stand out from local chat where it happened, although I guess the Comet would be the most probable place of them all…

Faction NPC's can spawn in any system where rats spawn, im not sure what the chance is but i have had several faction spans in belts in highsec in the couple years i have been playing, sometimes they drop faction mods.
not sure what the chance of it is mind, but yes it happends.
never had an officer spawn though..... im guessing they are limited to null.

I once had a dark blood adaptive nano membrane drop in a 0.5 system. so I am guessing most faction stuff is droppable, but its the only one I've had in my time in eve and that is a good few years now.

As said before There is a chance of Faction Spawns in Belts and Anomalies, but this are only Frigs and Cruisers in a 0.5 System.
In Some L4 Missions you (e.g. Worlds Collide or Blockade) there is a chance for a special BS spawn that drops faction modules.

I have heard of people getting ridiculously lucky with this stuff and getting Snake implants or whatever. Never happened to me.
