How do I "bump"?

My FC tells everyone in the fleet to "bump him off gate!" How do I bump someone off gate?

Bump is synonymous with push or ram. Just head straight towards the target at max speed until your ships touch. The bigger your ship is compared to the target's ship, the further this will push (or bump) him away.

What are the mechanics to conducting a proper bump though?

Aren’t they: 1. Select target 2. Click approach 3. Click full speed 4. Bump

How do you do this if they’re burning towards the gate?

If they are moving it is pretty difficult, close to impossible with smaller ships. With a BS or BC you can try to intercept them manually.

You can get a nice purpose built bump ship if you know something is in station you want bumped out of docking range.

A vaga with 100mn MWD does it nicely but make sure you are aligned and about 30km from the bump point to give you time to accelerate.

This can easily bump a capital ship out of dock range.

Bumping involves pushing or ramming a ship away (or to) a specific point. You need to be flying close to the direction you want the victim bumped (it is no use ramming a ship towards the station or gate unless you want to help them!) and you'll have the most success if you are heavy and fast. It is momentum that is the key element to a successful bump.

I've never tried it, but it is theoretically possible for a largish group of frigates to bump a carrier out of the station docking area. Personally, I'd like to see this done.
