How do I get more cargo space?

I keep running out of room for my Metal Scraps collection, how can I increase the cargohold capacity of my ship?

Immediately:

  • Put an Expanded Cargohold module in one of the low slot of the ship for a quick boost.

  • Put a "Cargohold Optimisation" rig for a further increase. Note that you lose it if you remove it.

After a while:

  • Industrial ships have a bonus to cargo capacity if you train a your racial Industrial skill.

Another trick is that some containers hold more inside than they take in cargo space. Example: Huge Secure Container hold 1950 M3 but takes up 1500 m3 in space.

Note: These containers won't go in a freighter last I tried.

Awesome answer; I’m surprised this hasn’t been mentioned as yet! +1

Confirming that they still won’t normally go in a freighter. The exception to the rule is if you ship them by courier contract, at which point they go inside the courier packaging and will go inside the freighter.

One thing worth knowing is that Overdrive Injector Systems lower your cargo capacity. I have seen a lot of industrials flown by newer players featuring both an Expanded Cargohold and an Overdrive Injector. If you want more speed, try Nanofiber Internal Structures. This will add both speed and agility without reducing your cargo capacity.

Also tech 2 cargo optimization will give you more cargo space but they are not cheap. i only use them on mining ships like my Orca and my hulk. Plus you could always get a freighter which has tons of room

In fairness Gah'Matar did specify rigs but got the Rig name wrong :–)
