How do I turn empty research slots into income?

We have several POS's running inside a wormhole. While they provide great staging ground for killing sleepers, we have dozens of free research slots. We tried investing in BPO's and manufacturing, but couldn't figure out how to make profit from it. Now the labs and manufacturing arrays mostly stay offline; brought selectively online only when someone in the corp needs some ammo/drones/ships and is too lazy to venture outside the wh to buy it.

I know that getting hold of research slots in hisec are very hard. I also know there is no game mechanic that lets you rent out research slots to other players. No one in my corp is a full time industrialist, but some of us have research/manufacturing alts.

I have started to make a small modest income for the corp by research, however it requires investing a lot of time and investment. I have gradually been moving up the BPO ladder over the last year, currently owning 6 bc BPO's 2 Capital Construction BPOs and 1 Covetor BPO as well as hundreds of cheap mod ones. The BC BP's have taken quite a few months to raise to me:50 pe:10 and am now permanently making copies and selling them via contract. The capital BP's were bought researched and also in perma-copy. The covetor is new and is currently being researched.

I can now sell those for a reasonable amount each week, hopefully soon buying the last 2 BC bpos and then onto BS, although the BS will take another 6 months i guess to get to a saleable level, but then I will make more ISK a week.

This is one way I see of making ISK with minimal running costs. We would have the POS anyway and empty lab slots like you. It just requires lots of ISK to get going, but its not money wasted as a 1 billion BPO is still a 1 billion BPO later down the line.

Buy BPO for popular things, research ME and PE, make copies (BPC), sell on contact or go one step further: Check invention BoM on BPCs (you just made), go buy the needed materials for invention, invent T2 BPC, sell on contract. Substantial investment needed for (example) Raven BPO, then invent Golem BPCs and sell for about ISK40M a pop, depending on the quality of your invention.

So make BPC’s->Invention is best route to turn these slots into isk. The downside is that invention is very skill heavy. But 40mil each for Golem bpc’s sounds very nice. Let me figure out skills needed to follow that route and see if any one in my corp wants to take that route.
