How do you distinguish BPO's and BPC's in a container?

After a deliver a bunch of blueprint copying jobs, the BPC's created and the BPO itself looks exactly the same. The only way to to tell them apart is to individually right click on every single BPO/BPC and select show info. Is there a faster and obvious way of doing this? In my case, the BPO's are not locked down, but protected by access permissions to the actual container.

This problem has been completely solved by CCP in the Incursion 1.5 patch. Now BPC’s and BPO’s look entirely different, and are very easy to tell apart.

As far as I know there is no easy way to distinguish BPCs from BPOs in a hangar or container. Show info as you mention is the only way as far as I know. Hopefully CCP will introduce a solution to this problem at some point.

Unfortunately, CCP have said many times that there are significant technical difficulties in solving this problem. We keep our fingers crossed!

A colour difference would be great. Green BPOs would make a world of simplicity for indy players.

Agreed. It seems like a simple enough fix to me, but who knows…

What about “View contents” function, will it help?

they could add a small color tag just like Tech 2 / faction / officer items.

This may be the problem too, if server treats BPOs and BPCs as the same item with different amount of runs(BPO – infinite or zero).

Now that CCP introduced separate (as opposed to layered) images for each item in-game we will hopefully see a solution to this sometime in the not too distant future. Then again, Serker may have a point if they are not actually separate item types.

Good news: CCP confirmed at Fanfest that in the future BPCs and BPOs would look different in TQ. No time frame was given afaik.

Actually I have found that if you right click and sort by type, it does differentiate. In a mix of one BPO and multiple BPCs of said BPO, you'll either find the BPO at the start or at the end. I have never found it in the middle of the "list" of BPCs.

I hope that helps.

I have found that the BPO usually the first or last one of that type when you sort in icon view. I always check those first.

As far as I can remember this is always the case when the container is first opened. Check the first one of the type, if its not the bpo the last one of the type will be. And yes CCP should really fix this – guess there aren’t enough industrialists making a noise.

One way is to create a contract for all the blueprints.

Unfortunately, if I recall correctly, you must complete the contract creation to see all the info it lists which includes original/copy, runs, ME and PE, so as a way to separate the originals from the copies it isn't much use, and of course costs you 10k isk to boot.

Plus the access permissions mentioned may cause you problems. You may be able to utilise that actually as it may work to select all and try to drag them to another location although I expect the transfer would stop at the first blueprint you aren't allowed to access so it may take several attempts.

CCP has officially stated that there will almost certainly never be a fix for this because it would require them to re-write large parts of their database, so unless it starts breaking game mechanics rather then just being inconvenient, its unlikely to go away.

This is also my understanding of CCP’s stance on this issue.

You can not do much to seperate BPOs and BPCs, unfortunately.

You can do various things through the Science and Industry panel to list seperately BPOs and BPCs in your hangar, but you can't move them from that screen. I usually put all BPOs I find in my hangar into ME research using the science and industry panel, move all the remaining BPs from the hangar into a can labelled BPCs, and then cancel the BPO research jobs. This way I can keep the BPO and BPCs seperate (at a small cost of a few thousand ISK per BPO).

To sort those already in cans, cargoholds or corp hangars, I usually make sure there are no BPs in my station hangar, put all the contents of the can, et al. into my hangar and sort as above (where I've previously checked that the station offers the ME research ability). It is not the best way of doing things, but apparently BPs were coded weirdly by CCP in the beginning and it is a real pain to sort things out atm. It was a major effort just to give the science and industry panel access to BPs like it has now.
