How does Eve News affect me?

Reading the News from Eve, such as the recent 'liberty' pill line of stories from Scope, how does/can that affect me as a player? I can understand the recent Sansha news with upcoming hostilities, but the 'liberty' pill or the picketing of the 'plantation' play confuse me? thanks!

CCP uses the news for a few things.

  • Letting us know whats up with the big wars. Players contribute to these stories, and marketeers can get big money playing wars the right way.
  • Back Story. To enrich the lore of EVE.
  • Slow leaks. Wormholes, Cosmos, Boosters, Sansha MOM. These have been things that pop in a few times, then come out with the next expansion. Over time if you keep an eye, you can start to see when some oddity gets mentioned a few times and guess correctly it will be integrated into the EVE game.
  • Promoting EVE new! Eve Bank, BOB gettin eaten from the inside, MC breaking out of BOB, GoonSwarm colapsing, all of these major EVE-Culture items have been stories too.
  • Give you something to look at while logging in.

Eve news, sometimes is useful.... Big engagements and noting enemy's acccomplishments/strengths and weaknesses is all good intel!

Most of it is Fluff, but the player orientate stuff is useful.

It is just CCPs attempt (successful or not) to expand on and enrich the back story.

Various GM led events have occurred in EVE along the line of the back story including the recent invasion by Sansha "NPCs".

I think that the addition it gives to many players will, when considered over the whole player base, outweigh any confusion it gives to some.

This may not seem so fair to those on the losing side but all changes to EVE, any game in fact, will please some and upset others - that's just life.
