How polite should you be if you get podded?

It is good PvP etiquette to say "gf" in local after a good fight, but what if you are podded too quickly? Should you convo the victor and say "gf", or should you just leave it as he already knows?

(When podded it is unlikely you'll still be in the same system.)

A good fight is only a good fight if it was a good fight! So the question really should say “If you think it was a good fight, but you were podded before you could acknowledge that fact…”

How you managed to get podded is interesting, but I'd go w/ sending him a mail. If he wants to reply, he'll reply, he can read the message at his leisure, and he doesn't have to wonder "is this dude going to cry in the convo or leave it at a GF"

Being podded is a fact of life, at times. Not often, but the lag monster can strike at any time.

I count on being podded once for every 3 ships I lose. It’s pricy :D

Personally I find silence is always the best answer with any you have even a remote chance of being on hostile terms with. The more you talk, the more it tells people about you, your abilities, and your intentions. If it was a close fight and you lost, silence can portray a steely resolve or professional attitude. Saying anything risks things going downhill fast.

Some folks also desire an emotional response, or "Tears" as they are called in some circles. Denying them that extra bit of satisfaction can be a small consolation for your loss.

Let me paint a small picture for you. Picture a group of 100 players controlling a system. One day 300 professionals silently enter their system and destroy everything with little to no resistance. How do the 300 view the 100 if the 100 remain completely silent during and after the battle? How do the 100 view the 300 if they remain completely silent after the battle? What if one side was smack talking and the other remained silent?

If you truly desire to try and make friends with your opponent, be friendly. Otherwise, if you are on the winning side or the losing side silence has tactical advantages of keeping things from getting personal.

No one will be disappointed if you don't send a mail after being podded. I've killed literally hundreds of pods and never gotten a mail after (except the odd hate mail).

No need to send a mail, as no one expects you to be that polite.

On the other hand, if you really enjoyed the fight and lost, it can't hurt to let the other guy know.

Your choice really.

The real question should be what determines a GF? Myself, I don't GF until it is one! For example they did something that turned the fight or made them win! No GF for them and five of their mates killing your hac!

So if they deserve a GF then give em one, in local or mail or private convo!

If your going to private convo, ask how they did what made them win, so you can do it next time :P

It absolutely dependes on who podded you.

In a fleet fight I consider it impersonal - I try to post a GF in local before I lose my pod.

If they are interested, be conversive. Even though you've lost a pod you can still chill out and have a nice conversation.

If they are aggressive or offensive then I would suggest refusing to respond - nothing frustrates a griefing player more than pretending they don't exist.

Agreed, while I am a rather new player, I did get podded on occasion. One was a gate camp… no need to say I didn’t feel like saying “GF” to pleople who ganked me even before I could figure out what happened 6 to 1 :D

I also did get pwnd by a high sec griefer who wardec small indus corps… Again, no need to say GF :D

finaly a few weeks ago we happened to be at war with a bunch of morons smart talking in local, insulting us, mothers country and stuff…

Yet again, silence is the best way to handle that kind of idiots.

Only say GF is IT WAS A GOOD FIGHT!

There is no need to be over polite

There is only two reasons you should ever be podded!

1) A bubble (requires you to be in 0.0)

2) Serious Lag.

if you have a pod saver tab on your overview this should be all you need to avoid it.

if you do get podded, chances are your in 0.0 and so light years away in another system as goo.

Like the others I tend to go with Good fight, there is nothing wrong with podding someone as part of a fight. If they taunt you or generally make a fool of themselves, take the moral high ground and move on... Only if you suspect them of cheating (For good reason I might add other than they just owned you) would I consider getting annoyed with them.

However this said, I have a couple of reds who have got me several times, and I have also nailed their coffin closed at least that number of times myself.... we always smack talk when we face off, but it is not real and is understood between us as friendly banter and sign of comradery...

a lot of it comes down to personal attitude, but fact remains Podding is a fact of life just as loosing your ship is and ultimately if you are taking your ship into 0.0 or into a large Lowsec fleet into a situation where you think you may be podded, take a Jump clone with no expensive implants.

The don't fly anything you can't afford to lose relates to implants too!

I have a simple question. When i was in the first moth of eve i got into low sec, got podded (of course) then to my surprise the pod killer sent me a mail from asking to complete it. Question were the type "On a scale from 1 to 10 how much you enjoyed to get your ass podded ?" . Can you still be polite to this kind of specimens ? I think not. If anyone has a different view please feel free to share it

The survey is probably geared towards extracting tears from you (which fuel greifer ships, apparently) and having a little laugh at your expense, so responding is not expected but could possibly create a friendship with good answers, or at least earn a little (tiny bit) of respect.

Ask them if they’re mum pays for their eve account, and if they know what the sun looks like, and on a scale of 1 – 10, whats their age?
