HP needed to survive suicide attack in Jita

How many effective HPs do I need to be relatively safe when hauling stuff in Jita?

This depends a lot. Ideally, you should insta-undock, have enough HP for smartbombs and that's it. I think 5-6k ehp will handle that.

In practice I'd say that if you can take two alpha strikes from 1400mm arty maelstroms, you'll live through almost any suicide hits in Jita. 24k ehp should live through that.

You shouldn't be on grid long enough for them to lock you, scan you and shoot you.

I would like to add to GreatApe's answer. As of this writing, of all ships in highsec, the Orca is considered the least gankable relative to hauling capacity. Moreover, anything placed in its corporate hangar will not drop but is lost forever upon the ship's destruction, providing further disincentive to strike against it.

Alternatively, the stealth approach invokes use of either the blockade runner (e.g. Viator) or a covops (e.g. Helios), though, as has already been mentioned, without an insta-undock, neither stands a real chance. Here, the objective is obviously zero dps and this can be more effective than any tank. Note that no substitute exists for intelligent, prudent (paranoid) flying practices.

I agree with Gah'Matar's answer, but would like to add one thing. There is no "safe" number of hit points if what you are hauling is worth enough. If you have enough ISK in your hold and someone knows about it, they will find a way to take it from you. Obviously get off grid as fast as possible, avoid being scanned, and fit for tank, but remember there is no sure thing.

Fly safe!

To Add to great ape’s anser when tanking, try to stick to shield tanking in this instance, even as amarr, armour tanking will increase your align time further and of course leaving the lows free for agility mods to make your escape off grid faster.

As above really all things are killable speaking from experience...

Not that long ago, my blocade runner got bumpped at 4-4 after my instawarp was active, was perfect timing and good on the pilot who attempted it, and only due to luck that it didn't lose it and it's cargo. I'm an experienced pilot, and if it wasn't for a fellow alliance member who happend to undock at the same time making him turn tail and run, it would have likely been toast as I doubt I could have lasted sufficiently to redock.

the re-enforced Jita node has helped alot since then, but apart from pilots being careless the number one reason ships get killed in Jita is Lag at the undock of 4-4... don't care how good your tank is without your active mods its toast quick.
