Is it worthwhile taking an <specific ore> processing skill to level 5?

I have tried to search the processing questions on site - none of which are too clear to me or have satisfactory answers. The long and the short of it is as follows: I have refining and refinery efficiency on level 5. I am training most of my specific processing skills (i.e. veldspar processing) to level 4. Do I need to train any to level 5? I am predominantly a industrial character with pretty low standings (don't mission much.)

I wouldn't waste time on getting those skills to 5.. unless you are refining in refineries with 35% equipment efficiency. In that case even with all ore processing skills at 5 you won't have perfect refine (it will be ~96.8%).

Maybe this can help: http://eve.podzone.net/refining.php

Using the best Beancounter implant at this point would give you the +5% that you’d need for a zero waste refine.

Presumably you are training them to IV for the T2 Crystals!

Ore Processing is only worth taking past this if you are doing your own refining.

Even then it is un-needed if you have access to a 50% refine station, and can afford to buy a H50 beancounter implant (think current Jita cost is ~20M, so peanuts really) more importantly you need not to have anything in implant slot 8.

This is what I do, and I still don't need to waste the month + getting the ore skills to V.

If you don't have the spare slot, capital & skill to use the Beancounter -H50 then you need to get them all to V to obtain 100% as Ecaf states. (this is assumed with 50% equipment)

If you are using npc station refining facilities then Refining 5, Refinery Efficiency 5 and "specific ore" Processing 4 will result in 0% waste and you will only lose yield through the npc corporation's taxes.

However, if you are using a refinery at a POS, which have a lower efficiency rating, you will not yield 100%. As to whether the time invested in multiple level 5s is worth the gain is a choice for you to make.

Actually RefEff 4 and Processing 1 will give you 100% result with 50% base yield. However RefEff 5 is needed for some other skills.

I thought that Aragaer, but before posting I checked ISK 3.0 and refining yield on 50% base yield Station shows Ore processing V required for 101.87% refine. Maybe the guide is Wrong or CCP changed something…. It has been so long since I refined anything, I just went with it.

If you have Refining and Refining Efficiency at V already, then [ore] processing lvl III will already be giving you a zero waste refine at 50% yield refineries in NPC stations.

In stations with 35% yield, you'd need to train all three skills to V and use the +5% beancounter implant to achieve zero waste on each ore and ice. As Curious says, without the implant, you'll get a 96.88% return, before tax is applied, without it.

Have a look on Ore Map, if you need to find out whether the NPC stations local to you are offering a 35% or 50% refining yield.

As to the tax, the only way that can be reduced to zero, giving you a 100% return on your refining is to achieve a personal standing of 6.67 with the corp that owns the station.

Check out Halada's mining guide for a set of table outlining the different returns for refining at facilities with different yields - I think it may also be reproduced in the I.S.K. Guide (ISK Guide), which uses excerpts from Halada's.
