Legit methods of tanking the Navy?

There are several methods used by Faction War pilots to tank the NPC Navy in enemy high-sec and there is also much debate over the more "dubious" methods and whether or not they are "exploitative" or not. For example, tanking with 10 high speed militia pilots (speed tanking) is considered OK but recently a rise in using neutral alts to take the aggression has become popular.

As I understand it, initially, giving agro to a neutral alt WAS considered an exploit but this was later changed because the neutrals apparently do now become legal targets for the enemy militia.

Is this correct or do you still suffer CONCORD aggresion for attacking such neutral alts?

Do you know of other Navy tanking methods currently being tested/used?

voting to close, i think those “in the know” are unlikely to shed light on their secrets and none of the answers so far really add anything over what is in the opening post.

There was a Caldari FW corp who put up a POS in Gallente hisec to tank the navy until the Gallente people killed it.

Also, if you fit several MWDs and SPRs on a maller, warp it several AU from a station and tell it to dock once it has Navy aggro, it will repeatedly warp in short jumps and the navy will waste their time following it.

As far as I am aware neither of these is an exploit, though you should petition to make sure if you plan to use them.

If you come up with something that you think is an exploit the best course of action is to petition and ask a GM rather than the forums for two reasons:

  • People you ask will more likely than not tell you whether or not they think it should be an exploit rather than if it is. This leaves you either mistakenly unable to use your fun trick or liable to be burned.

  • You can keep your new fun trick secret.

The POS did not take agro though to my knowledge but they used it as a staging base (well they were going to, it got put into reinforced and then taken down before they could do anything.

Overly tanked ships, or ships that could align and warp before the navy can get you. I'm not sure if neutral reps become a target for just the NPC navy or all the FW pilots of that faction.

Someone actually did put at risk an orca to try this one ? lol, that’s bold ^^

The Orca did not take aggression, they may well have tested on SISI before hand also.

I think neutral repping does transfer agro to the neut – which previously meant that no FW pilot could shoot the neut in high-sec without CONCORD agro – but aparently that was changed (and now using neutrals to take the agro in this manner is not considered an exploit, whereas it previously was). Have not tested it myself as yet though. I heard of a trick using a neutral Orca to dock up enemy ships which left the NPC Navy in limbo and not shooting anything!
