Well, with just shields and missiles, you're fairly limited:

  • Raven is the obvious choice. Lots of Missile launchers and midslots.
  • Navy Issue Raven is a step up if you can afford it.

If you're willing to add train a few more skills, you have a few more options:

  • Rattlesnake is the king of passive shield tanking, but you'll need Gallente BS and drone skills (especially sentries), as it lacks a damage bonus for missiles.
  • Adding Large Hybrid Turrets will make the Rokh a viable choice, though you will have to train Gunnery support skills.
  • You can also cross-train into Minmatar. Getting Minmatar BS to 3 and Large Projectile Turrets will give you access to the Maelstrom, arguably a better choice than the Rokh. Still need Gunnery support skills.
  • If you want to spend considerable time cross-training, you could get laser skills and Amarr Battleship and get a Nightmare. But it probably isn't worth that much time right away.

The annoying thing about Caldari is that there are so very few ships outside of the Caldari ones that make use of their primary combat skills (shields and missiles), so you have to make a fairly large investment to cross-train. That said, the Navy Raven is a fine choice that will pay dividends quickly.

yea i think that i could try train for a Nightmare or just get a Navy Raven but how good is it over a Tengu?

Nighmare steamrolls em/thermal weak rats, instapopping frigates and cruisers, pulverizing Bss in few volleys. Downside is good gunnery skills required for it. CNR does less damage, but requires missile skills so it is closer to you. And well, Golem gets closer too. Its damage is close to nightmare not only for sansha/bloods/mercs, but for everything, and surpasses it in some cases.

In what CNR better than tengu? Its damage is not kinetic based, it can multitask with shooting launchers and using drones against frigates, its tank won’t suffer from few webbers attention. Last two points are common for all battleships.

Navy Scorpion is another viable option.

Navy Scorpion is overtanked Raven with same dps. But if you like tons of unnecessary tank, why not.

If you are limited to Caldari ships - perhaps you can try Nighthawk? You still get to use missiles and it can tank pretty much anything but it requires a lot of skills.

With a little cross training - you could try Gila. Ship has bonuses on drone damage and can carry a lot of drones (125mb/s bandwidth and 400m3 drone bay).

Damn, forgot Command Ships. Nighthawk is your best choice if you don’t want to train new skills.

Gila is tiny rattlesnake, in fact. Caldari Cruiser 5 will be useful with it. Nighthawk is pain to train, and does not give any advantage over tengu, apart from flight of drones.
