Nullsec: Security Status displayed as 0.0. CONCORD has no presence at all here; PvP actions here will not incur security status penalties nor CONCORD response. Some Nullsec systems are controlled by player alliances. NPC Pirate (rats) spawns are good here. As well, Stealth Bomber bombs and Interdiction bubbles can be deployed. Stargates usually lack Sentry Guns.

Lowsec: Security Status between 0.1 and 0.4. CONCORD has limited presence here; PvP actions will incur security status penalties but not CONCORD response. Rat spawns are not as good as in 0.0, but better than Hisec. Stargates usually are protected by Sentry Guns.

Both of these are in comparison to Hisec (0.5-1.0). In Hisec, CONCORD will respond to unprovoked PvP, and Cyno fields cannot be used for Capital Ship transit.

Null sec is systems with security rating of 0.0.

CONCORD has no jurisdiction over this area of space - player law rules here.

Low sec is systems with security between 0.1 and 0.4.

CONCORD law is still in force in low sec but CONCORD ships do not go there, there are only the sentry guns. Attacking a ship without one of the allowed reasons still results in a security status hit to the attacking player and any sentry guns there will attack him but that's it.

There are more things than only concord response to this.

Concord react differently based on systems security status (as explained above)

Pirates change too :

  • 0.7 -> 1.0 = frigate sized
  • 0.4 -> 0.6 = small cruisers are added
  • 0.1 -> 0.3 = battlecruisers, cruisers and frigates
  • 0.0 = Anything can spawn, including battleships ;)

Appart from pew pew, security status will change what you can anchor in space :

  • 0.9 and above = nothing can be anchored (not even secure cargo container)
  • 0.4 -> 0.8 = container are fine, as well as starbases if you have the standing to do so
  • 0.1 -> 0.3 = same as 0.4 -> 0.8, with no standing requirement

Overall, security status indicates how dangerous (and profitable, one comes with the other generaly speaking) the area is. I ain't talking about PVP, but also the rest of what the game has to offer :

  • mining
  • rats
  • Deadspaces
  • Wormhole

The lower the SS, the more difficult those things will get (and more profitable too, again).

Lastly, you should not that security status displayed in the game client is rounded up, as such you might think you cannot anchor something in a 0.9 system, well you can ! It might be a 0.89 security status system...

In fact security status range from -1.0 to 1.0, but all negatives are rounded up to 0.0 the rest is rounded up to the nearest tenth ;)

Hope this helps !

I do not believe rats spawn in 0.9 and 1.0 systems in belts. Either that or my days of afk mining in my badger were extremely lucky ^^

also, I’ve encountered BS spawns in 0.4 and BC in 0.3.

Aeniec > that would require some research, I ain’t sure. Still they aren’t much danger anyway. Also keep in mind that spawn rate is very low ;)

Bo Red > duno, evelopedia says it works that way. 0.35 = 0.4 though, you remember ? :=)
