Planetary Interaction Layout

Can anyone advise on what they think would be the best layout to optimize the extraction of materials. I have skilled up to advanced but am unsure whether it is worth the effort to go to elite.

Going from 4 to 5 for command centers really depends on how much you are going to put on one planet. For high sec, this is a question of how many extractors you will want/need to run your processing at a reasonable level. For low and null sec, this is a question of trying to optimize your single planet production to reduce the amount of shipping (risky) you need to do.

The most efficient layout appears to be routing all of the extractors to a single storage facility. The launch pad is the largest, followed by storage, and your own command center. From this, then route to the processors. This has the advantage that additional production isn't lost from overfilling the processor, but is instead buffered in the storage. One storage center can route to several processors.

Launch pads are necessary for import (if you are making a higher level item that requires goods from two distinct worlds) and can be dangerous in low sec space (easily camped and generally involves larger less defended ships visiting). One should look at processing goods as far as possible on a given world.

At some point you may want to get the top level command center, but it is not something that will make or break a production line. Efficient routing on the planet links is more important.

The biggest issue will be that currently to 'upgrade' a given planet to a larger command center you will have to destroy your current one along with your entire grid. Don't launch a smaller command center if you plan on using a larger one in the foreseeable future.

You can, if you plan it right, get P3 products from a single planet with Advanced Command Centers, but this of course depends on where you are. My experiments have mainly been in low sec where the yields are greater than in high sec, thus requiring less extractors.

Using elite CC you can get tier 3 products from single planet - 3-4 extractors for each of 4 resources? 4 basic processors for refining them, 2 more basic processors for tier 2 products, one advanced processor for tier 3 product, one launchpad/storage as a single buffer. You need those 3-4 extractors per resource in high-sec, maybe not that necessary in low-sec.

If you are going to have 2 planets producing tier 3 materials and one temperate/barren planet to assemble tier 4 from those, you could move advanced processors onto last planet as well, getting some grid/cpu to squeeze an additional extractor or two.

If you dedicate your objectives a planet each you can optimize the production greatly.

Planet Type 1. Extraction & basic Processing 2. Advanced Processing

So you can train each of your 3 characters (per account) up to Command Centers level III and Planetary Consolidation to level II just over 24 hours.

Then you have 3 extraction planets for each alt character (6 planets) Your main Character would have 2 extraction planets and one advanced processing planet.

using Enriched Uranium as your chosen porduct. You purchase an Improved Command Center for each planet.

Barren planets will have the Noble Metals Lava Planets will have the Heavy Metals

I found that the Noble metals are less abundant so use a 2:1 ratio

eg. Your character will have 2 Lava planets the Alts will run x3 Lava planets each

  1. Extraction planets include basic processing.

Heavy metals extractor > Storage > Basic processor (toxic metals) > storage > Spaceport Noble Metals extractor > Storage > Basic processor (precious metals) > storage > Spaceport

command center goes wherever haha the cans are only small so we use spaceport export for everything.

route the extractor to the storage before the processor. when it has filled somewhat, route the stuff to a processor. (you can put more in parallel) route the processor to the spaceport, it has larger storage than the warehouse anyway.

Then you come along in your Primae and collect all your stuff by exporting it to the customs office. you then go to you hanger and contract the stuff to your main Character.

You will now have quite a lot of Toxic Metals and Precious Metals

  1. Advanced Processing Planet

Spaceport > storage > Advanced Processing Plant x14 > Storage > command center/spaceport (circular)

You are only limited by how much time you put into it and how many replacement mice you can afford.

at 23hours cycles with 2 hours per day you can produce 1000 Enriched Uranium in 30 minutes using: 4 characters using barrent planets for precious metals (12 planets) 2 Characters using Lava Planets for Toxic Metals (6 Planets)

at time of writing 1200 Enriched Uranium will sell for around 10M isk. This can be done twice daily !

Main character has planetary consolidation III allowing for the advanced processing planet.

a full writeup is planned on out corp website.... with images.
