Recruitment methods that work for corporations? And which to not bother with?

What tips/methods do you find most practical for recruiting quality new members into your corp?

Reputation is by far the best tool but this can take time to establish. So aside from this my own top tip would be to use the Eve-Online recruitment forum.

BUT! Rather than just make your own post and bump it now an then, spend time each day going through the posts from people looking for corps - address them personally (no lazy copy posting) and encourage them to contact you in-game for a chat. It requires daily attention but if you put the effort in you can get quite a lot out of it this way (I have found anyways).

For what to not bother with I would suggest:

  • official recriutment channel - full of spam and trolls

  • local channel spam (once or twice an hour sure but if you fill the channel constantly it puts people off and invites people to start smacking you)

  • named cans - have a very limited audience

  • paid for adverts on eve affiliated websites. Don't seem to work very well for what it can cost you.

So, what are your suggestions?

Getting new players generally is the best way for sheer numbers, but eve has a rather high attrition rate. So you will probably only get 1 in 20 of those new people to become regular players, the rest will get bored and move on. But the game as a whole needs corps where older players are there just to help new players.

The way i usually recruit that goes pretty well, is to just convo people who are in npc or noob corps and express an interest in them joining your corp.

I agree. When I ran a corp, I would epxect to lose say 1 in 8 to 1 in 10 of all my newcomers to EVE that joined my Corp. There’s only so much you can do for people though…

I would agree with your point here on it being a numbers game but I have noticed this is more the case for pve corps than pvp ones (in my own experience). In my carebear corp we picked up a lot of members, especially new ones, but only a few would stick. However in my pvp corp things are very different, you dont want to pick up random unknown members because of security and compatability issues; recruitment is more targetted. No surprise that the conversion rate of invites to people who stick is a much better than with the pve “get everyone in” approach. Thats my experience with it anyway.

Forum advertisements, either at the eveo forums (terrible idea) or at the Eve University work fair forum (good idea if you are on good terms with E-UNI http://forum.eveuniversity.org/viewforum.php?f=66

Other recruitment methods basically rely on being good enough at whatever it is you do that people notice. I've had a few friends who got invites from PvP corps by getting into a few fights with them and everyone having a good time. Not sure how well that would work for more industrial-focused corps, though.

Adverts on Eve-O work actually very well – however you have to maintain, moniter and promote your post correctly and actively. It is not enough to post and leave it.

well strangely enough i have been quite lucky lately with advertizing in the recruitment section of corporation 5 members within few days.

before using this i went a month without luck.

EDIT: Note that my corp is a small mining corp.

For my corp the best way to recruit is to rent offices in new player systems like Ammold and Hadaugago. I then put adverts in each of those systems for one month. Putting cans up at times can be risky some corps might get mad and war dec your corp. Many corp recruit from new player systems so you need to be careful where you put cans at best place is 100 km off the station. Another way is when you are in the new player system post in local you are looking for new players. Those tend to be the best ways at recruiting new players.

Aye but trawling local for people like tends to recruit… shall we say, less than desirables?

That is true but its up to you who you let in your corp or alliance. I always check what corp they have been into and battle clinic.

not sure many new players are gonig to have much in the way of employment history… or pvp history for that matter. I think what Rash was hinting at here is that you are probably filling your corp with alts (ie looks like a new character, but probably isnt and this has many potential problems).
