Running Lvl 4, mission tanking?

What is a good ship to tank lvl 4 missions?

Some ships:

  • Drakes have a big tank, poor dps but is doable.
  • Ravens do a good job, but require a bit more skills for sufficient tanks.
  • Dominix is a classic. Drone DPS, uber tank at low skills, tractors/salvagers in the high slots.
  • Gun Boats: Tempest, Maelstrom, Ammar, Mega, Hyp: These can have great tanks and good dps, the drawback is constantly moving into range for max dmg. Missiles do not have this problem.
  • Marauders: The win button. Tractor/Salvage for miles, heavy dps from the bonus.
  • Command Ships: A CS has more dps than t3 and battle cruisers. They have tanks greater than or equal to battleships. They are very maneuverable, more so than battleships and keeping in range is much easier. Also, the medium weapons will hit much better on small/med targets than battleships and the med guns will hit great vs battleships. Arguable giving them more effective dps in missions since you come across all sizes of ships.

For missions, or the 0.0 equivilent Havens and Sanctums, i like to use a DPS ship (Raven / Abadon / Marauder) and a ship to handle smaller guys (Sleipnir / Zellot / Deimos).

My reccomendations: (no particular order just goodies)

  • Raven / CNR / Golem
  • Hurricane / Maelstrom / Sleipner
  • Myrmidon / Domi / Ishtar
  • Any Marauder
  • Thanatos ;)

Me too, but I like to throw drone link augmenters, nosferatus, various remote reps, and/or omnidirectional tracking links in there over tractor salvagers. Besides, once you’ve salvaged in a Noctis, nothing else will do. ;)

I run lvl 4's in my drake. takes a while longer, but if its tanking you are worried about, that will do it.

Most people use Ravens, they would be the average ship.

If you want to become efficient at them, use a Golem to salvage while you mission.

If you want to speed through them, use either a Navy Raven or T3 (Tengu imo).

You notice they are all missile ships have suggested, that is because you can tailor your dmg type you are dealing the best.

No mention of a Machariel. Heresy!

The Machariel is, without peer, the best ratting/missioning boat ever. Versatile damage types, great range, even with Autocannons, a decent drone bay, and awesome damage. I would pick it over any other ship, any day.

Machariel is pirate red flag, if you want to get suicide ganked, go farming l4’s in a shiny nightmare or a machariel :D

Great ships though, for sure !

drone boat to take all targets cruise or torps to help the big ones.

Its tank is insane, really, but you will need to constantly switch between drone types. And its damage is okay, but not too good. It is mostly AFK missioning boat – aggro everything, drop drones and watch TV.

One more ship I'd like to recommend is Dominix Navy Issue. It's not extremely expensive, it has enough pg and cpu to fit a full set of 250mm railguns, while keeping it's amazing tank. This allows it to take out targets, especially bs-es a lot faster, while being able to tank every l4 mission. It makes it imo far better for this purpose than Kronos.

RedMage has given a great response which I fully agree with except for one omission-:

If you are doing missions with Raven/CNR/Golem have a serious look at the Navy Scorpion. 8 mids gives you a fantastic combination to play with and in my opinion it out performs the CNR across the board and is also cheaper.

The Navy Scorpion can out tank a Drake with CNR DPS.

Navy Scorpion will outtank CNR, but will do less damage. It is a choice between extra tank and extra gank afer all.

Machariel or Nightmare, depending on where do you plan on running L4s. It's possible to find a proper fit for about 1.5-2 bil including hull cost (faction dmg mods & deadspace booster), then find a quiet system with L4Q18 agent and you don't have to worry about suicide gankers.
