Salvaging skill effects

Does improving your salvaging skill level increase the chance of successfully lifting salvage from a wreck overall, or just the chance of picking up whatever is available on any individual cycle of the module?

No skills affect the chance of an item being returned over nothing returned.

The skill only affects the chance of a result, whether that result is salvage or sorry you "successfully" salvaged but there was nothing to salvage. Basically you will just get through the wrecks quicker with better skills and/or the T2 salvager.

So the second of the two options you listed.

As Ecaf said, your salvaging skill does not affect what salvage you get. Higher skills does NOT get you better salvage. This also holds for using salvage tackle rigs. They simply make salvaging faster overall.

The only exception is when salvaging sleeper battleships inside wormholes. This requires Salvaging IV, and would benefit a lot time-wise from using salvage tackle rigs/t2 salvager.
