How many missions do you need to complete in order to get a storyline

The answer is 16 but note that if you decline or fail a mission this knocks 2 off your "count".

There is much discussion and disagreement about these figures but are generally accepted by most players as accurate.

Declining a mission does not affect the count. I recently declined a mission for a Lvl 4 agent. I requested a mission from another Lvl 4 agent of the same faction and, after completing it, was given a Lvl 4 storyline. If the count had been reduced by two, it should have taken three missions to get the storyline.

i noticed that storyline missions pop up after some time after you complete the necessary amount of missions, there have been many times when i wasn’t missioning and got the notification for the storyline mission, maybe you have completed 16 missions after declining that specific mission, some more in detail testing needs to be done

Are you certain that declining a mission knocks two off the count? (as long as it’s once every 4 hours and you do not lose standings)

I am 99% certain, but please feel free to test it out and let us know if it is accurate. As I mentioned the whole subject has been disputed and debated.

errata.

You should also know that you need to complete 16 same-level missions! You cannot get storyline mission if you complete few of level 1, few of level 2 missions etc... :)

The parent is correct. All 16 have to be of the same level. The storyline mission will then be of a difficulty of that level. You can tell what level gave the storyline if the reward is an implant. Level 1 missions give +1 implant, level 2 give +2 and so on. This is true through level 4 missions. It may be true for level 5 mission but I’ve never done one.

As I understand that isn’t true although I think what level you get is dependent somehow on the previous levels you completed – although I wouldn’t be unhappy if given good evidence to the contrary

i’ve tried to run 15 level 3 missions and 1 level 4 so i could get storyline level 4, but it was fail idea :)

I am guessing that it takes some kind of average and probably rounds it down.

You need to complete 16 missions of the same level for the same faction to get a storyline mission. The storyline mission will be of the same level and for the same faction as the 16 missions.

I think, but can’t verify, that the type of missions affects the type of storyline mission. i.e. running mostly courier missions will get you a storyline courier mission while running mostly encounter missions will get you a storyline encounter mission.
