Tagging targets

I have recently taken part in my 1st Incursion which went well however the FC was tagging targets, but I could not see them in my overview. He was very busy and did not have time to explain at the time so I ended up watching where everyone was shooting before joining in. Please can someone explain the tagging process and overview tweaks to allow me to see them.

Many thanks

I would prefer FC’s just used the fleet option to broadcast a target, and then the fleet can just use the announcements in the fleet window to lock.

There is a column on the overview named "tag". The tags your squad/wing/fleet commander sets will appear in this section. You need to open your overview settings, find the "columns" and select the tag column, then arrange it and other columns so that it is visible. (You only need enough space for one character width.)

Most help advice on overview settings often forgets or ignores the tag system as it is a tiny bit difficult to set a tag and anyone without a tag column on the overview (the default) will be unable to see it, but in my opinion the tag column would be great as the right-most column visible on your overview. Not only does it give the ability for you to see your FC's tags, but it also allows a small blank space where you can quickly see the EWar icons that the overview shows sometimes.

Edit: And Annie is correct about that tickbox. It is on the overview setting's "options" tab. Warning: you need to get used to a tagged ship suddenly appearing at the top of your overview because you may be used to sorting by name or distance and the slight difference might be distracting at first!

Yeah, it was the only example I could find that did mention tags when talking about the overview. That isn’t clear in the answer though.

Actually, when I wrote the Eve Uni guide I did actually remember to include tags! “Tag: The tag that a fleet commander (FC) has assigned to an object. Useful when primary and secondary targets are called, although an FC will usually just shout out the name over Teamspeak. Mostly used for shooting rats, where the FC wants pilots to destroy enemies in a certain order, but doesn’t want to have to call out each target. Also useful for exploration, where cans in archaeology or hacking sites need to be marked as completed.”

It's in overview options somewhere. You have a tickbox to "Move tagged targets to top of the list."

I believe you’re getting mixed up between broadcast targets and tagged targets. Tags are actually a separate column in the overview, and you can either choose to sort by that column or not.

I'm not aware you can remove these Markers in your overview settings, is it possible the FC had his Broadcast settings wrong?

But anyways, don't care for the crosshair that should appear in the overview, it is too buggy. You often have the situation when ships appear or disappear while the crosshairs are still shown that it wanders to another item in the overview.

Use the Broadcast history in your fleet window to lock on the broadcasted targets, you can lock with ctrl + left mouse button too. And you don't have the overview fuck-up as described above.

Question is on tagging, not on broadcasting.

Good answer, but I think it’s to the wrong question, unless I am confused?
