Trading in a single station

Asked by [ Editor ]

I have a market alt in Oursulaert that just sits in-station and buys/sells to make some (mostly) passive income. I'm wondering whether it would be avantagious to move it to Jita. I'm worried though that it would take more time and energy to make more or even the same amount in Jita due to the smaller distance between buy and sell orders.

So, is the increase in volume in Jita enough to counteract the decrease in price range to still be able to make a profit while only logging in once or twice a day to check orders? Or should I stick to a side trade-hub if I don't want to have to spend more time?

I think that although you could potentially make a profit doing it within one station, as you said the margin is thin and the competition is more active there than anywhere else. You would do better if you had more than one account to have the alt in jita checking prices against prices you can check with your other char in another region. If the prices are different enough between the sale price in one area and the buy price in the other, buy low, xport it to the other regions' market hub, and undercut the competition.

You don't want to create an alt account just for this reason, but if they are in different regions anyway, wouldn't hurt to do.

How much time are you willing to spend working it? I spent a while station trading Jita in the fall. I'd get outbid about every 10 minutes on anything high volume. The "lesser" market hubs have also far fewer market players.

I currently only spend 15-30 minutes a day in Oursulaert and would rather not have to spend more than double that to keep the ISK flowing.

For a while I did pretty good with reaction materials in Jita trading with maybe 10-20 minutes twice a day. Then it got too volatile aroud christmas. Try POS modules maybe. Jita is the main trading place for them and good (slow) profit can be add, especially on Minmatar and Amarr small/medium POS guns.

Also did well on Coupling arrays and similar “common” mods.
