What Amarr ship would you recommend for doing Level IV missions solo?

Asked by [ Editor ]

Please recommend a ship, any ship--Battleship, Command Ship, whatever. Also if you have any specific fittings you'd recommend, please do so. I want to work toward flying a good ship for level IV missions.

Edit: I've seen a couple recommendations for Battleships. What about the Damnation? I've heard some people use that for missions.

If you can’t fit the T2 gear, no worries. Just swap them out with named modules. I don’t usually fly Amarr, but if I did, the Abaddon would be my first choice.

No offense to Evilpixills, I just know that the Abbaddon can be rather expensive. While I think his fit is excellent a better start may be an Armageddon until you can afford the larger ship. At the end of the road of course lies the beautiful Paladin. :D

Now that extra high I usually toss in a tractor beam but anything else would work. I can also leave an extra rig open because of my cap skills so I don't know what you would want there, maybe more tank or DPS. Your choice. Any T2 armour gear you could fit is always a plus. Drones and tank would of course be swapped based on incoming DPS and what you're trying to kill.

now, why all the pulses w/o speed boosters? I understand that pulses will deliver more DPS than beams once they’re in range, but without AB or MWD, what are you doing about rats way out there? Or does that not happen?

It doesn’t usually happen. And the crystals swap instantly so I can go from 38km optimal to 12km in a second or two. Other than that I use drones.

The Apocalypse is a good mission runner with its range bonus and amazing cap (with skills, it's over 9000). Fitting can be tight, but you can run beams or pulses w/ 3 lowslot mods or dual rep tank. The navy issue's larger grid and extra lowslot are also very nice if you like to have your cake and eat it too.

I am currently using this:

The same fit more or less works on the standard Apoc (minus a lowslot, obviously) if you switch to pulses and use a second tracking computer to get a little extra range. The Apoc's range definitely makes up for its lack of a damage bonus when fighting enemies that like to orbit at range (namely Sansha and Blood Raiders, who you want to be fighting with lasers anyway). The range bonus is especially attractive if you are unable to fit T2 pulses or don't want to use Scorch L. The laser cap bonus is nice if you use beams and the ship's very strong capacitor in general means you can fit interesting things instead of cap mods.

In response to your second question, people usually prefer battleships because they are a cost effective way to field the DPS you need to clear level 4 missions in a timely manner while also not dying. The Damnation is probably a poor choice for running missions since it doesn't pack much of a punch at all. It is meant to provide gang bonuses and give the FC a place to sit that doesn't make an attractive primary. If you want to run missions in a command ship, check out the field command versions since they have more DPS. They may, however, have difficulty delivering that damage to target due to range and speed issues.
