These data cores are used in invention which is how you turn T1 Blue Print Copies into T2 blue Print copies.
Or you could just sell the cores on the market for money.
It is one of the best forms of non hassle income in eve.
Most popular ones are mechanical engineering... mainly because T2 ship invention is done from these data cores.
It is notable that the research point system may be revamped or even eliminated entirely in the near future, as per a recent interview with a CCP employee.
