What are the extractor head numbers in the Extractor control unit in PI?

I was wondering what the numbers mean in the extractor head control unit in PI. On the left you have a number for each extractor head, e.g. 46.63 in the picture. Then you have the amount extracted on y-axis in the graph, 0-4000 in the picture. The y-axis bit is clear. The number for each extractor head is not. It doesn't seem to correspond to the extracted amount, it seem to correspond to the colour (blue, green, yellow, red, white etc) when you view a resource-amount on the planet. If haven't got perfect skills you don't see all the hot-spots. Does the head number show what you see with your skills and the y-axis the actual truth? But the extraction rate always seem to go down when you start the extraction compared against preview values, suggesting this is because of not perfect resource scanning skills. Although it's just guesses and I would like a more researched opinion. Might I even hope for some sort of actual fact?

I am regretfully without a reliable internet connection at home so haven't been able to get in to sort out my PI post Incursion updates but with a bit of Googling around I found this updated PI guide on Keith Neilson's EVE site I am Keith Neilson.

He mentions the numbers you have asked about in the passage below copy/pasted direct from the page.

"This is where you select how many Extractor Heads you want to use. Each one you activate requires power and CPU resources. When active they will appear on the planet’s surface and can be freely moved until the extraction program is installed and submitted. The numbers next to each active extractor head give you a rough idea of how rich the vein of resource that they are directly over is and will change as you move them around. They will also indicate if any of your extraction zones overlap with a red minus figure under the main number."

The whole article seems to make sense to me even without viewing the screens directly so maybe you can work out what you need to know from this.

If this question is still unanswered by the time I finally get back online properly I will for sure be making my own investigations and will report back then.

Good question - I'm maxxed out on all PI skills, pretty much, but I'm damned if I can work it out either. All that training after Tyrannis, just for the whole lot to get nerfed - doh o\

The Number next to the Extractor Heads in the ECU interface is a general indicator of the quality and density of the vein of resource that that extractor is over. I'm not sure how it's calculated but all in all the higher the better.
