What Are The Most Dangerous Missions?

I was just reading Tobold's blog and as a newbie he just got ganked in Damsel in Distress.

So what are the most dangerous combat missions for L1? L2? L3? L4?

Any mission that you are not prepared for has the potential to be "the most dangerous."

In Tobold's case:

While the level I missions were rather a bit too easy for me flying in my destroyer, my first level II mission Damsel in Distress turned out not so well.

The problem here is he was flying a destroyer of some sort in an L2 mission.

Destroyers are beautiful ships. I love them. However, when it comes to almost anything other than aesthetics, they are often a death trap for new players.

The L1 mission in a destroyer is often a cake walk - you've got a bunch of singleton frigates coming at you one or two at a time - you've got more tank than a frigate, more range, and more firepower. Its to pick them off at range and be done with it.

When you move up to an L2 mission you are now dealing with multiple frigates and cruisers. The destroyer has a nice alpha (the first attack when you hit all the guns) but it only has 6 effective small guns when it comes to dps after the alpha because of the -25% rate of fire penalty. This is not significant when it comes to breaking the tank of a cruiser.

Next, the cruiser is shooting cruiser sized guns at the destroyer which do more damage. The destroyer presents an only slightly smaller than cruiser sized target which is easy for a cruiser to hit. Furthermore, the destroyer has a very poor tank that fits at best a small armor repair (The T2 version most new players who just got into L2 missions aren't able to fit) which just crumples under cruiser sized fire.

So, back to the question - Tobold wasn't prepared for the mission so it was dangerous. The same can be said of any L2, L3, L4 and L5 mission (in a recent L5 that I ran with corpmates I was the primary tank in a myrmidon where a previous run of the same mission destroyed a T2 battleship - it was a matter of being prepared).

Very true…but additionally I think everyone who remembers running Damsel, with its zone in camp, makes it a much harder mission than the average L2 mission. Guess what I am asking is which missions are the outliers, danger wise, on each tier.

Blockade can be dangerous if you don’t watch out for the triggers. This is true for any level. Higher levels have substantial dps.

Break their will is one that is a bit tougher because of the repair station.

New Frontiers (level 3) is the first place you really see neut towers and can be a challenge if you aren’t prepared for 0 cap and warp scram.

Worlds Collide has the potential for large amounts of damage.

The most dangerous missions would be any that are in low sec space. You can be killed by NPCs and Players there. Other then that the lvl4 missions would be the most difficult with lvl1's being the easiest

While L-sec was a factor I hadn’t thought of, it’s not the missions we pilots have to keep an eye on.

I think the L1 version of World Collides is the hardest L1. Certainly lost a fair few Merlins trying to do it way back. This is compounded by trying to kill everything which only triggers the spawns. Of course last time I ground L1s for standing I used a T2 rail fitted cormorant and it took a few minutes.

I had to help a friend out with "Worlds collide" the other day, which I've never reckoned as being particularly hard, so the difficulty of a mission is in no small part a function of the ship you're flying. A maelstrom has a much harder time of it than a raven for instance, and a navy raven massively outperforms either of them.

I don't mission any longer, but I used to find level 4 "damsel" missions to be fairly tough in a raven, but very easy indeed in my blaster rokh. Sometimes, succeeding at a mission is just as simple as identifying the facet that's giving you the most trouble and finding a way round it. If tanking's an issue, just go with a big HP buffer, or try and kite. If hitting with guns is an issue, use missiles or drones.

The most difficult level 4 mission I have encountered is a cargo pickup mission where you must pick up ten units of quafe ultra, if you get this mission it is a basic 5 minute shuttle flight to pickup and warpout, however if you don't know this and warp in with a combat ship you can find yourself stuck on a tower in the middle and being neuted by battleships. Have seen a lot of friends die this way.

So yes, preparedness is the key.

For L4's, Damsel in Distress and Worlds Collide, and Angel Extravaganza's Bonus Room are tops on my list.

But that said, ANY mission where you go in unprepared can cost you your ship.

I'd say enemies abound part 5 of 5 and blood raiders blockade are the hardest lvl 4 missions i've seen.

In EA, the spawns are all timed, so if you dont get killing them, you will get owned. I helped someone in a raven who warped out + let all the spawns come.....my nighthawk with a 1600 dps omni tank's shields lasted only about 45 seconds. we had to go back with a fully shield rr hurricane + the raven with a shield rr fitted (and my fleet bonus of + 6% to shield hp) to beat it. Lots of webs to tengu would get raped.....at least there weren't any scrammers.

In Blood Blockade, you get epicly neuted and WILL HAVE NO CAP. My passive tanked nighthawk can do this mish without warping out, thanks to happy shield comp skills + recharge rate, but it is close....bring a bs with cap boosters. Also, mmissie/projectile ships are better cause they dont need cap to fire. (the blood elite crusiers + bs neut)

I'll go with Anubis208 and his choice of Enemies Abound 5/5. It's the only mission I've never managed to complete.

Most missions are a cakewalk once you have a decent understanding of game mechanics, But this one's a pig of a mission.

Did you know that if you bring two ships to Worlds Collide, and the second ship drops drones and engages the spy, the entire room aggros on the first ship? I had been missioning for a good 9 months when I found that out the hard way and got my friend's faction-fit battleship scrammed and killed.

http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=missionreports and similar sites are your friend. Complacency is your enemy.

There are some outlier missions in terms of incoming dps, but as long as you align before you get into structure you'll be fine. The only tuly dangerous missions are the ones you bring the wrong tank to, and the ones where you get scrammed - especially if you're not expecting the scram. Check the mission reports before you do a mission for the first time, including people's comments. Keep your eyes open for mentions of scramming enemies and be ready to kill them with drones - unless it's the Spy in Worlds Collide.

The most dangerous mission you will do is the one you don't expect to be dangerous. The most dangerous mission I have done was one of the Minmatar Epic chain, I believe it was "Surfacing". It drops a large number of battleships on you in their optimal range, plus scram and web.

while it is not a real mission, the 10/10 plex with the super weapon is probably the most dangerous NPC encounter you can have in a mission. it does enough damage to instapop cruisers but shoots only once every 60 seconds, if you are in a tengu you should avoid this as it will instantly kill you.
