What capital ships can dock and jump?

Asked by , Edited by Silas Sanyasi [ Moderator ]

A friend of mine is considering getting a Nyx super carrier and live somewhere in 0.0 doing ratting and complexes with it. We're not sure how capitals work in nullsec, so I'd like to know:

What capital ships can dock?

What capital ships can jump using normal gates?

I'm going to jump right in here and say this is a very bad idea, and stands to cost you a lot of ISK for no real gains.

Firstly, you never take a capital - let alone a supercap - into a belt. That's begging to lose it, and it's substantial overkill.

Secondly, you can't physically take a capital or supercap into most complexes, as deadspace gates won't allow caps.

Thirdly, any anom or plex which does allow entry will be a walk in the park for a PVP fit carrier - so a supercap would be a vast overcommitment in terms of risk/reward.

Finally, a supercarrier is a huge undertaking - you're basically commiting one of your characters to spending the rest of their EVE career floating in space.

  • You will need to run and fuel a powerful POS for it to live in, and it WILL be scouted and attacked.
  • You will need to provide it with fuel to move from system to system.
  • You will need 3 or more other accounts to provide capital support, logistics and cynos for the supercap (it can't dock to repair, replace drones/fuel/refit etc).

So, in other words... don't do it. Supercaps are only viable as PVP ships for wealthy players with the support of a healthy PVP alliance. If you insist on heading to 0.0 for this reason, stick with a carrier.

Just a point, you really do not want to be using a Nyx solo (or even with a little support) in null. Most, if not all nullsec alliances would love to have a SC kill on their KB...

And if you join an alliance, i'm sure they'll be expecting you use your SC in capital ops.

Indeed a good point :) I believe the plan is to join an alliance of “renters”, somewhere deep in the backwaters of territory. I’m not sure how the rules for renters normally are, but I hope the rent compensates for the lack of Capital Op participation.

It's been said but Super Caps are not meant to be a solo ship. If you guys can afford to fly and fit one you would most likely be welcomed in 0.0 alliances but I would'nt want to use a ship that pricey for ratting/plexing when a nice dominix would do just as well. At the very least a Thanatos is overkill for ratting but you will most likely lose it as well. They are juicy targets.

just a little fact 1 titan plus 1 domi with drones are good money farming that rats... can easily earn 80-100mil per hour doing sanctums which are the bounty alone then have a 3 person in afterwards salvaging everything

since some big alliances do it XD

Anything can spacedock if interface is bilingual and power coefficiant. No gate is normal. Portals of this design are more suited to small areas of doorway expanse. Visuals and comm are best suited to gates. And site to site command level personel.
