What did you waste skillpoints on?

Asked by [ Editor ]

As a precautionary tale to newer players what skills do you feel you wasted your time on?

If CCP allowed you to "untrain" skills and reinvest the skillpoints in another skill, say 1 sp per 2 sp untrained, what skills what you wipe out?

For me that would be most of the T2 manufacturing skills I trained, such as Frigate/Cruiser Construction and Caldari/Minmatar Starship Engineering as the only T2 ships I have ever made were Anshars.

As an additional comment I used to wish I hadn’t trained the specialised armour compensation skills, eg. Thermic Armor Compensation, but they do add something even if that is not very much.

I don't believe there's any such thing as a wasted skill in EVE. If you have a skill you don't feel you'll ever use, chances are you don't have it very high anyway. Besides, you may find yourself using that skill one day and be glad you have it.

This is true. I thought of the answer but then looking through my skill list I struggled to come up with a good example but decided to ask anyway.

The 3 days I spent on Planterary Interaction skills after Tyrannis.

But then if I'm bored enough, a few minutes of clicking on space farmville will make some more pos fuel, and eventually save me some isk and hauling. Plus CCP said they would make PI more fun and less click heavy in future, so this isn't a total waste.

Less clcking would be fantastic. I’ve finally just set up a double click button on my mouse.

I remember when reading the evelopedia something about jury rigging :

Jury Rigging—Level 1 is required for fitting Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I rigs, which increase scan strength. Since the tech 2 version of this rig has a very high calibration cost, and the rig has no drawback, training beyond the first level is not necessary.

That may be true for scanning, but Jury Rigging above level 1 is required for numerous useful rigs.

Weel Jury Rigging doesn’t reduce drawbacks, it is the specialist skills for that so maybe you mean Energy Grid Rigging. But I agree that Jury Rigging above 4, which is needed for some T2 rigs, seems utterly pointless.

Yes I know, that was my point in fact : some skills are useless if you don’t have the use for them… Kinda “captain obvious” of course.

If you are all about PVP, trade skills are not much of a use to you.

Training weapons that don’t match your race can be considered wasted skills… But overall skills are always usefull, it depends on what you do.

Jury Rigging V is required for building T3 subsystems, so it isn’t completely useless…

Ah thanks for the update Serker – I guess they must have always had something in mind for it.

Ecaf, higher levels of Jury Rigging are prereq’s for the specialist skills you mention. That is what I was referring to. For instance Energy Weapon Rigging requires Jury Rigging 3.
