What do you think is worth mining right now (H-S), and what happened to Trit prices??

Pretty self explanatory. My 18-month old son self-destructed my T2 fit Abbadon after I spent a bunch on research books for multiple chars, so it looks like it's back to mining for a bit so I don't have to forfeit my Orca. The last time I was doing any serious mining the trit prices had fallen from 4.2 to 3.8 and I thought that was low enough but 2.19? What happened? In your opinion, what are the most valuable high-sec minerals for their mining amounts, and why?

(I have 3 chars with two maxed hulks and an Orca if that changes your viewpoint any)

The ore to mine in hisec has been Kernite for at least the last few months. It is found in Amarrish areas.

If you are just looking to make some cash, you might consider running missions since you apparently have the skills to do so. Level 3 missions now pretty consistently make more than hisec mining, not to mention level 4.

As for why mineral prices have fallen so much in the last year or so:

  • There has been a surplus of minerals coming into the market for years now, so there has been a long term downward trend in prices.
  • Last summer (2009) the respawn rate for veldspar was increased to reduce the number of belts mined out in later time zones. This caused tritanium to be more readily available compared to other minerals. Tritanium dropped to around 3.40 and pyerite rose above 7 by the end of october.
  • Something in the Dominion expansion led to an increase in fleet fight lag, to which some attribute a relative decrease in large scale 0.0 hostilities and the corresponding demand for materials
  • Mineral prices fell to a point where it became profitable to self destruct insured ships and stabilized for several months as thousands of ships met a terrible, fiery death.
  • The Tyrannis expansion changed ship insurance, thus removing the artificial price floor it created. Mineral prices continue to fall.

Decreased mineral prices also mean pretty much everything else (especially T1) is now cheaper to buy.

Forgot one thing. I believe it was the Tyrannis patch but was prolly the one before, TRIT was increased in all the high end minerals. This means in 0.0 where the 60m/hr mining goes on more TRIT came out, and the demand to have it imported into 0.0 dropped a bunch.

Well, using my spreadsheet here you can calc which ore/m3 is worth more based on the mineral prices. (save it yourself if you want to edit it.)

As for trit, it used to be down at 2.19 and spiked when they stopped seeding the shuttles on the market. This means that people noticed that veld was worth the most in high sec, and more than even alot of low sec ores. that drew ppl to mining again, and mining fairly safe too. it also drew the macro miners. supply increased until it ballanced need and ever surpassed it. once that happened, trit prices dropped.

Thats how i saw it anyways.

Kernite and Omber seem to be best ISK v mining time especially if you can hit it with your full fleet (2 Hulks & Orca). Dont forget if you do probe, some high sector grav sites can produce some large roids which really help your cycle time with maxed out hulks and orca's.

Sorry to hear about your Abbadon destruction but seriously impressed you have introduced your 18 month old son to Eve. Mine is more interested at pulling the cats tail than playing Eve :)

Yes. He has since learned how to mine, but still from time to time self-destructs my ships while playing with the right-click menu. He has taken out a few unhappy pilots with him and I’ve had to apologize for it. Good times!

Due to the fact that there are tones of people who have 2 to 5+ accounts mining with all of them fleeted and boosted that have max mining skills and they tell 1 to mine Veld and the other to mine another type of ore and such. I was ratting and there was a bunch of people from 1 corp mining ore and cleaning out 3+ systems all in 1 area then you have the people who use micro miners to do all the mining for them for mining and then you have the micro market bots that cause the prices to drop since they try to under sell people and more and more actual people drop their prices.

1 or 2 updates ago there was a huge war that was going on so a lot of corps were losing tones of ships trying to take them down and they did manage to so after that the demand for Ice and such dropped a lot and since the price on T1 stuff going down slowly the price of minerals is going down a lot faster so people are mining to build things with them more and also a lot of people like me mine ore and refine it to build things for me like ships and such and to sell on the market.

This online resource is handy for seeing the relative values of all ores.

http://eve.grismar.net/ore/

'Course you have to input the mineral values yourself, but this is nice since you can see the ore's value in your local market. In my market kernite and pyroxese are about tied for best value. But beware of chasing down the best ore, back when I first played EVE kernite was king in a big way, but the macro crews stripped entire systems in short order and I ended up spending so much time looking for kernite that I would have made better isk just mining what was handy.
