What does Incursion mean to you?

I just read the info about the Incursion expansion and what appears to be a PvE war versus the Sanshas. How do you think this will affect your play?

Hints in the Incursion expansion announcement:

  1. CSM Suggestions: Address lag, improve the GUI.
  2. Carbon: Toon animation and (perhaps) walking on stations.
  3. Escalated Sansha events.
  4. Sansha mom
  5. FighterBomber (I hope they are not referring simply to drone-bombers or the like)
  6. Noctis salvage vessel
  7. NPC AI enhancements.
  8. New (presumably valuable) loot drops (probably from Sansha events)
  9. Graphics enhancements.
  10. PI interface simplification/overhaul.

I wonder if they are going to expand the Sleeper AI (focus fire, target shifting, smart remote repping) to other NPCs. Perhaps just to the Sanshas as part of the storyline events. Personally, I like the Sansha events and hope they get more immersive and occur in lots of places and really involve (perhaps attack) pilots at random. I like what they are doing in an attempt to bring the storyline into the mainstream Eve universe, as opposed to having it as a sideline in chronicles, news stories and fragmented WH encounters for the diehard role-players.

In general I am encouraged by the list and looking forward to it.

It ain’t going to be walking on stations. Carbon is the first step to this, but Incarna is not to be expected for at least another year !

Update items:

  1. Fresh Pilot Portraits: Sounds neet. I'll play with it. After that not much.
  2. Sansha Mothership & Fighterbomber: I will be roaming into Sansha territory w/ my possie a lot. Ninja pvp the plex0rz.
  3. Noctis Salvaging Vessel: Sounds neet. I'll try and figure one into a neut/bait ship. Rig prices will go down.
  4. Improvements to NPC's AI: Complaints like no other on the forums, even done perfect. Petisions will take longer due to people not reading and taking half a billion into a level 4.
  5. New Coveted Loot & rewards: Complaints on the forums. The people who adapt fast will make out and it will maybe even make it more fun! Hopefully it's not a fancy name for 'reduce faction drops'
  6. Storyline Events: Neet. I'll turn on the EVENTS chat channel when in empire.
  7. Amazing New Visuals: Cool, hope i can see them on my Radeon HS 2400 Pro (50$).
  8. Simplified Planetary Interaction: This is flamed already, but apparently it is from CSM to reduce the ridiculous amount of clicking needed.

Other:

  1. Downtime @ EOH Poker.
  2. Downtime to fix something (It's cool, i'd rather extra DT day per patch than paying for them <3 )
  3. Masters of Magic, Civ 4, Dragon Quest 6.
  4. Sunlight, Fresh Air.

I'm hopeful about the expansion because it seems like they're not doing anything. And what they really need to do is refine systems they already have in place and fix things behind the scenes.

Although I wish they'd drop the whole Sancha Nation thing and just fix the content they already have in the game.

It means to me that... I am too far behind to get any benefit from it... That someone else will rip off the reward. That my corporation will never let me have 1% of what I may find.

To actually get something good of it, you need to manipulate existing markets, shoot neutral transport ships (they may have values on board), manipulate people's minds and sell something in the Hype, build up the hype and sell stuff even higher.

what i would LIKE it to mean is that pirates will start attacking our Ihubs and stations. if they did that it would give the stable alliances (the ones worth a crap, aka NON PETS) something to do when not at war. and from the sounds of it being multi-day or so i thought it mentioned, it will probrablly have time-released anomolies or something that will lead to the mothership at the end.

or hell for all i know all waves of the invasion may be directly on the ihubs stations and TCUs including the mothership itself. regardless i hope they use upgraded AI like the sleepers to attack people once they start ariving to blow the pirates up. it would be awesome to need to take in a team of 15 + RR carriers and dreads to completely destroy a cap fleet of sansha pirates, and if they did it rite, they could make it a rather profitable endever by giving the sansha dreads and such 10 + mill bounties because they would take so much power to destroy.

the thing i am worried most about is the distribution of money or possible monetary gains to the people involved besides the most likely 1 run BPC for a mom at the end.

I've just starting reading the new EVE book, The Burning Life, and it's interesting to see the backstory that is given to the Sansha Nation. I had never none much of it before and I can see where it would be interesting if incorporated into the game from a strictly story standpoint.

As for gameplay I already run Amarr missions, I hardly need an excuse to fit up my EM Hardeners and blow up some more Nightmares. Still, I would like to see some sort of 'main story' specific missions come up, maybe a new Epic Arc? I think there's a lot CCP could do with this. But at the same time I also believe that this is some storyline filler to keep us all entertained while they polish off Incarna.

I believe that this will encourage more highsec-happy pilots to go out and test themselves a bit more.

This can have one of two affects IMO. Either This expansion comes out weak and annoys those with higher expectations, or it will encourage some to go out and either explore low->nullsec, taking some away from mining and manufacturing and the like, and/or send a bunch of pilots out to get killed because they don't know what they're doing. Either way, sounds like trit prices will rise as a result and market values will be shaken a bit, which sounds exciting, albeit a bit optimistic.
