The Maelstrom will be able to crush most lvl4’s with ease. Using these in your mids (mission specific hardeners, of course) can let you tank A LOT of damage, and the highs are generally 1400mm arties:

Large shield booster II Shield boost amplifier II 3*Ballistic deflection field II Heat dissipation field II

Use 3-4 Gyros and 1-2 Tracking Enhancers in the lows.

never ever use T1 pulse lasers, even on an apoc (with its range bonus) you want to have the option to use scorch

your question is too broad in this form

Paladin, Navy Apoc, Abaddon, Vargur, Maelstrom and Bhaalgorn are all perfectly viable ships.

On Amarr ships I prefer Pulse & AB (over tachyons); the Abaddon requires in my experience perfect capacitor skills and Amarr BS V to be fun (as you will run with only 2 Hardeners and a faction/deadspace LAR to keep the 3 Heat Sinks), Navy Apoc is extremely forgiving in terms of skill requirements.

General rule for fittings:

  • Pulse lasers
  • AB, cap rechargers, tracking computers/webs
  • LAR, 3 Heat Sinks, at least 2 Hardeners (4 on apoc), EANM (on Paladin) , Tracking Enhancer (if no Tracking Computer)
  • CCC or damage rigs

I don’t like the Maelstrom but it works well enough.

Your selection also depends on the area of space you run missions in – if a large share of your missions are against Sansha/Blood Raiders you want to go with Lasers; if you mostly fight e.g. Guristas Projectiles are the better choice.

Tell us more about your skills, preferences and budget and we can give better answers.

I have both Amarr and Minmatar BS at IV. I am able to use t2 pulse lasers and autocannon. I am currently missioning in Amarr space (so I suppose lasers would be better), but eventually I want to mission in Minmatar space so I can get (hopefully) more Angel missions.

Currently I have an Abaddon and Maelstrom I mission with. I don’t remember my Abaddon fit off the top of my head because I haven’t used it in a while. The maelstrom has a tank consisting of 3 hardeners (I usually use one Invulnerability field and 2 mission specific hardeners), a shield booster, and a shield extender. I also have a cap booster. My rigs are two shield extenders (forget what they’re called) and a projectile burst aerator. In the lows I have gyrostabilizers and tracking enhancers.

I’m not currently using any faction modules; they’re all tech 2. I can fit any tech 2 module, armor or shield.

My ultimate goal is to make the most isk in the least amount of time, so whichever ship would be best for that. :) I can also fly the Legion and battlecruisers (of course). If the Loki is a good missioning ship (better than BS), I’d be willing to train into it. All my subsystem skills for the Legion are at V.

Hope that helps. :)

If you want to max out the isk income without dual boxing, there are several options.

The first is to finish the mission as quickly as possible with a high DPS ship (tier3 or faction Battleship), then come back with a dedicated salvaloot ship. Another option is to train for Marauders, so you can mission AND salvaloot in one single pass. I don’t know exactly how good is the Vargur, but the Paladin handles pretty much any lvl4 just fine.

If you find out that your salvaloot income is not that good, even with good skills for salvaging and recycling, you may want to consider skipping the Salvaloot part and focus on chaining missions quickly to base your income on bounties and reward, but I’m not sure that’s a very popular option since most mission runners usually consider salvaloot as the main income from L4 running.

Do not forget as well to max out you social skills to increase the ammount of LP, and then use those LP’s to sell faction stuff on the market.
