What is a pounce spot and how is it used?

I read in another question about setting up a "pounce spot" 1-2K off a gate and in line with as many others as possible. (http://skilltrainingcomplete.com/questions/1656/what-is-the-best-method-for-creating-important-system-bookmarks). I pretty much don't understand specifically what is meant, here.

So, as the title indicates, what is a pounce spot and how is it used?

Hiya. A pounce spot tends to be safe spot near to your position but generally off grid (so not visible on the overview). For example, near a Stargate or an Acceleration Gate.

You leave a ship at the gate, and your backup at the pounce spot. When you get someone daft enough to engage you, you're backup warps in quickly from the pounce and blob the other pilot.

What about the part about “aligning it with as many gates as possible”. I assume that means putting them all in a line, but what’s the significance?

Some call this a Ninja safe as well. Same thing, different name.

Being able to align to multiple gates (i.e. burning in their direction) at the same time enables you to warp to any of those gates without delay. This means you can have a couple of people sitting on different gates, baiting or engaging people and the fleet can warp to whichever gate they are needed at.

Cool! (I thought it meant that, just wanted to be sure.) Thanks for the answers!
