What is the counter for a ninja salvager?

What is the best move against a ninja salvager if he steals from you?

  1. Let him be and don't fall into the trap of hitting him if he steals, cause then he can destroy your ISK1.5B Golem.
  2. Try to alpha his ninja ship and flee if he manages to warp away.
  3. Always carry a scram/disrupter and try to catch his ninja ship.
  4. None of the above, supply your own answer.

Ignore him - unless you are running an escalation or he's looting your Officer rat's wreck. I don't see the point in looting/salvaging anymore under normal circumstances.

If you are just annoyed, turn some of your wrecks blue by abandoning them. If the dude sticks to the blue wrecks, you know he's not a ninja, but just someone trying to make some isk, if on the other hand, he tries to get your attention, it is a Ninja salvager, and it might be time to call upon friends/alts if you want to have fun with griefing him :P

true, once your skills get to a certain point, you make way more isk/hr killing rats than salvaging. The only acception is if you salvage the BS as you kill the rest of the spawns, and the particular faction gives up one of 2 high end salvage items.

A Ninja Salvager is nearly always after your ship and not the salvage. Totally ignore him and do not say anything at all in local. They feed on your anger and frustration so if you carry on as if he was not there he will soon get pissed off with your lack of response. Why loose your favourite mission ship because someone is stealing a few mill isk of salvage.

As no one has mentioned it I thought I'd also point out the fairly obvious and suggest changing your mission hub.

Many people just stick to the best quality lvl 4 agents in the busiest systems and then bemoan the fact they are plagued by ninjas - but you can have quite a peaceful life if you do a bit of research and look for a not quite so perfect agent.

Sure you might end up with a few courier missions, or not as much LP return - but if you want peace and quiet it's often the best way to go. I don't mind the trade-off myself.

Other than that the best tactic is to just ignore them even if they can flip - it's not usually a good idea to consider pvp when you are out in your best shiney pve ship.

Try Salvaving as you go, in a Golem is quite posible, that way he has nothing to Salvage.

Attacking him its a tricky move, he could have friends ready to assist him and he is actually expecting to be attacked, to be able to kill your ship. Only attack if you are 100% certain hes alone and he's a low skill char that has no chance at getting back at you.

Even if he stole a few millions worth of Salvage, thats not enough to risk losing a high priced ship + fittings.

You can also, switch ships to something expendable and hunt him. =)

As a ninja salvager, the correct answer is either to ignore me, or salvage as you go. If you do your mission with one or two other buddies salvaging while you shoot, there's relatively little I can do. Except race you for the mission item you need to complete the mission. That just never gets old. The item will either show up on contracts soon, or I might have a change of heart and jettison it.

Leaving the mission to get me NPC aggro may or may not work. Counter-intuitively, the small NPCs are the most dangerous to me, since they can actually hit my 1500km/s cheapo ship, and they can point me. If you leave me in a room with 12 battleships, I'll speed tank them without trying, and I'll simply keep salvaging/looting your mission until you return.

Salvaging/looting makes decent ISK, so blue-ing the wrecks makes me a little sad, but not enough to stop me.

Shooting the wrecks basically forces me to stay to make sure you shoot everything. I'll try to race you and loot from your containers if I can, since you're already shooting at things you shouldn't, which might indicate a level of frustration conducive to bad decision-making.

If you pop my ship (which isn't hard, a t1-fit destroyer could alpha it), you probably shouldn't stay in your mission, unless you happen to be missioning with a passive tank pvp-fit ship. Either that, or have some corp-mates on standby, and play the bait ship.

If you decide to leave, don't assume that you'll be safe coming back after 15 minutes. Aggro can and will be extended, thanks to the many wrecks in your mission.

Good luck.

Have your alt sit in a cloaked arazu at tackle range off the juciest wreck. when he loots it, tackle him, kill him, then dock up your main for 15 minutes. Sit cloaked in the mission and wait for him to come back and see what he brings. If its something you can take, then do it. If not, just wait out the timer and go back to the mission.

Don't expect to get away with it twice to the same guy though.

This only works if they are looting. If they are just salvaging and you are in high sec, there isn’t anything you can do except salvage faster than him with your alt.

Ninja Salvage as it is cannot be countered in an harmfull way... since Concord doesn't consider this as an aggression.

If you don't want those guys to salvage your stuff, salvage it as soon as you kill NPC's...

As long as they stick to salvage, there is little you can do, appart from wardecking them of course. But they usually belong to NPC corps, so again : dead end.

On the other hand, people stealing loot from you are from two kinds :

  • thieves
  • people that want your ship

The first one can be burst into flames of course, but if they happen to the second group, you might get into trouble...

As usual in EvE : if you don't want to lose you ship, don't risk it !

Actually, Noctis will not help ninja salvagers at all. Unless dev’s will change the rules and allow to tractor beam wrecks that doesn’t belong to them.

Correct about the tractor beams, my bad. Well they will have more cargo at least ;)

Edited my message to remove the noctis thing ;)

If there are still rats about, then just warp out, and then warp back in and chuckle when you see a brand new wreck on the field :-)

This doesn’t work. Rats take a while to switch aggro, and he’ll have plenty of time to warp out. If he’s in an assault ship, he could tank an L4 spawn solo with the tiny sig radius and speed.

You would think that, however this actually works on the lesser of the ninjas.

harlock

Also most ninja don’t have really expensive ships ;) so they can’t really handle the strain of the dps of an L4 mission ;)

Personally I just ignore them. Assuming the rat frigates are dead, you can tank rat battleships even in a t1 destroyer for more than minute at least. My first profession in the game was as an L4 salvager (consensual, not ninja). I’ve had to deal with a lot of emergency warpouts and disconnects, and rarely lost my destroyer even with <1 mil skills.

The ONLY counter, is to salvage as you go.

If you go after him, it's probably a trap, and you risk getting your PVE ship blown up by someone like me.
