I operate in a 0.5 system with a lot of macro miners. Thought about thinning them out a bit, especially since they mine away all the good minerals. I was thinking of training an alt for a brutix for solo suicide ganking, but am unsure of the best ship and best fits to not make it too expensive.

You really wouldn't need the MWD, web or Sebo if you're sure its a macro miner. Scrap the armor mods as well. Obviously your gonna want to use the cheapest gear possible but at the same time deal a lot of damage. Maybe go for faction ammo (caldari navy anti matter) if you want but I wouldn't recommend loading in no more than 5-10 rounds per turret. Make sure you get plat insurance as well so you will get something back from your loss. Also be sure to stack your turrets and overload them before even attempting to fire. Hope this helps.
