Some ideas worth considering that are astoundingly profitable for a new player:
Cross-region trading in highsec
Use http://eve-central.com/tradetool/ to find arbitrage opportunities between two regions, buy the goods in one region, then haul them for a profit. This form of healing the market is entirely legit and can often result in some astounding profits if you trade responsibly. Using this strategy, I went from 2M in my newbie fund to 100M in about three days, by finding some lucky opportunities other players had missed.
The catch is you’ll sometimes miss opportunities or get your ship blown up if you’re not careful. You should always use some form of bankroll management strategy like the Kelly criterion to mitigate the risk when a trade goes bad. Always keep some ISK in reserve and keep running your lanes.
Wormhole sales
If you find a wormhole that doesn’t have players based in it (use dscan to find force fields, no obvious activity on StaticMapper, etc.), you could try selling it for profit. Note this is tremendously rare and wormhole ownership can often change very quickly, so this is a high risk, high reward strategy.
Highsec PI
Often overlooked by newer players starting the game is the ease with which one can establish a PI empire. It’s very easy to establish a passive income early on, with about a week of training allowing you to cultivate twelve planets across three characters and get them the skills necessary to haul their spoils to their local trade hub.
While not nearly as fast at ISK generation as trading or the sudden sale of a valuable wormhole, this gives your characters something to do when they’re not online, allowing you to squeeze that much more ISK out of your account. The proviso here is the necessary skills cannot be trained on trial accounts, making this dubious for someone attempting to PLEX out of their trial.
Other strategies
Other strategies worth consideration that I do not yet have enough data on include investing three characters into research agents and using research and manufacturing to further secure a passive income.
The motif here, in all cases, is to make your money work for you. If you trade and invest responsibly, you can make your ISK rapidly go exponential to the level necessary to pay your subscription without touching any of the scams flying around Jita 4-4.
Remember: we need more people like you. These strategies help make the market more efficient and valuable for all of us, and that’s a big win for all involved.
