What is the technique to warp halfway between 2 celestial objects?

When looking on how to bookmark a safe spot in a system, people often mention to warp halfway between 2 planets, moon, gate and what not. But once back to the game I couldn't find how to do it.

There are two common approaches.

The first is 'warp slamming' where you start and cancel a warp in progress until you don't have enough cap to be able to warp all the way. You will stop at some point between the two locations where you can bookmark and move on.

The second way is to have the people and places menu open with the bookmarks available. While in warp between two points select 'add bookmark'.

If the system is one with missions, consider also doing an encounter mission and bookmarking that location.

The bookmark is not actually made until you press the OK button on the Add Bookmark window, so you can press Add Bookmark as soon as you enter warp and wait until your distance to target is a little less than half way before pressing the OK button. It takes a little practice, and the warp speed of your ship might make things even more difficult if it is very fast.

with “Warp Slamming” you could also get a friend to hit you with an energy neutralizer, though this of course depends on you being in nullsec (or lowsec if your friend doesn’t care too much about his sec status)

…or on your friend being in your corp. I find the bookmark drop to be easiest.

“Warp slamming” is also some times referred to as “cap dumping”.

Tangentially related: If you log off in space, book-mark where you are when you log back on. As logging off will warp you off into space somewhere at random it will be a fairly good safe spot. Probably not to be used all the time as its a little time consuming/annoying.
