What makes a Cynabal better than a Hurricane? (pvp)

I see a lot of Cynabals hit lowsec roams or small 0.0 roams. Why would one use a Cynabal over a Hurricane in PvP situations?

1 word answer: Speed.

Multiple word answer. Speed is what the cynabal has in abundance. With an overheated 10MN MWD this ship can do almost 4k per second, with an align time of 5.7 seconds.

Couple that with an alpha over 1100 and a DPS of almost 500. Shield tank it for a EHP of about 40k and this ship is pure win-sauce.

A hurricane is a good ship, but cannot hit the speeds a cynabal can. While it can match the DPS and beat the Alpha, not having the speed to outrun interceptors means that you will never get near 100% damage on one. Not to mention an aligh time of 12.1 seconds means that this ship cannot turn as fast(and if you fit it to turn as fast you lose in DPS!)

The range of a cynabal's autocannon(w/falloffx1)(425mm II's) is about 33km, whereas the hurricaine with artillery(w/falloffx1)(720mm II's) is 37km.

I think part of the speed is the effective agility of the Cynabal. Its mass and drag are much less than the Hurricane. The other thing you have to mention is the falloff bonus. The result is that the agility allows you to dictate range and the falloff bonus means you can do damage at that range.

True…..I was comparing an arty fit hurricane with a anutocannon fit cynabal.

True…..I was comparing an arty fit hurricane with a anutocannon fit cynabal, so I assumed the ranges were actually quite similar……the ability to outrun most interceptors is a big win with this ship. I will add in the agility difference tho.

the cynabal also has a larger drone bay and thats a small + for some people.

OOOOooooOOOO I totally forgot it had drones, cause usually they are ECM for me…….just in case I get locked and pointed and webbed somehow.

It usually seems that the different types of ship and their T1, T2 and Faction variants can be listed in terms of power:

  1. frigs
  2. destroyers
  3. cruisers
  4. faction frigs
  5. t2 frigs
  6. t2 destroyers
  7. battlecruisers
  8. faction cruisers
  9. t2 cruisers
  10. battleships
  11. t2 battlecruisers
  12. faction battleships
  13. t2 battleships

(This list can be argued over and over, for example a rifter can take on a catalyst and win, and a dramiel can beat a ferox, but it seems that this ordered list is usually what you get when you generalise enough.)

As you can see, the faction cruisers are somewhere between battlecruisers and t2 cruisers in power.

I think this list is a bit off, because the cynabal > t2 cruisers, IMHO.

ya and i will challange any t2 bs to take my vindicator or my bhaagorn. i would split navy faction and pirate faction ships in to 2 different groups as yes t2 ships are better then navy faction but not pirate.

Hmmm. As I said, it is definitely a bit subjective… Recons are weaker than faction cruisers, I won’t doubt, but HACs are much tougher except in the situation where the cynabal’s bonuses give it the edge. Also, I agree that a faction BS will wipe the floor with a black ops ship, but I’m not so sure about the marauders. Only way to find out would be to download all 1v1 killmails and count them by winning and losing ship classes.

Good point about the difference between navy and pirate factions. Perhaps this whole list should just be removed and started again listing each individual ship class? Bah! Waaay too much work!
