What prevents super capitals from escaping?

Asked by [ Editor ]

It's not very likely I'll get to null sec warfare and kill a titan.. but I'd like to know anyway...

Ships like titans and super carriers are immune to all kinds of electronic warfare and I'm guessing that means you can't point them. My question is what prevents them to flee from battlefield (if they see they will get destroyed)?

Warp disruption bubbles of all sorts. It is mobile warp disruptors of all sizes, warp disruption probes from interdictors, and HIC bubble. Scripted HIC warp disruption field generator will work too.

Scripted HICs do work.

Scripted HICs were developed specifically for tackling super caps.

While they are immune to electronic warfare, they can still be held down by a bubble.

Also, if you continue to bump them there is no where they can go.

They can, however, log off and usually outlast the damage you or your gang could put out in 15 minutes allowing them to disappear into safety.

Supercaps can be tackled by (roughly in the order of popularity):

  • Bumping to prevent aligning
  • Any kind of bubble, preferably HIC or large
  • HIC focused warp disruption script

A fleet of regular ships would immediately try to bump a supercap if engaged. You would probably split up the fleet because a titan will likely doomsday. It takes a long time to kill a supercap, but it also takes him forever to align. Just keep bumping aggressively till you get a bunch of hic's and your cap fleet cyno'ed in.

Edit: Must've had a brain freeze. Forgot doomsday now just kills a single ship instead of the entire grid. P.S. If your corp has spare titans, bring them on small gang roams and DD the enemy logistics (this actually happened to the logi in our gang two weeks ago).

Why would you split up the fleet because of a DD?

Couple of observations: Bumping won’t stop a supercap jumping out. Many supermoms fit ECM bursts which will stand a chance of breaking a HIC’s lock and breaking a focused point – that and a HIC with point up is dead meat to any supercap. That makes any bubble the method of choice. Finally, although DDing command ships/logistics/T3s is a great tactic, Titans are notoriously difficult to bring on roams :D

Regular capitals can be prevented from warping away by regular tackle (warp disruptors and scramblers). Obviously bubbles and HICs with scripts work as well.

Supercapitals, carriers in triage and dreadnaughts in siege are immune to all EW, which means that regular warp disruptors and scramblers won't work. What will work is bubbles, either from light or heavy interdictors, or scripted HICs (which is what you have to use in low sec where there are no bubbles).

Of course, carriers in triage and dreads in siege can't get away anyway, so you just need to be quick with the points after they come out of siege/triage.

So, TL;DR - the only things that can hold down a supercap are bubbles or scripted HICs.

AFAIK bumping is no longer as effective as it once was since they changed the mechanics of it. Smaller ships now have negligible effect on much larger ships. And bumping won't prevent him from jumping out.
