What's the best nullsec Crane fit?

There isn't a "right" answer to this, but I've been finding a lot of conflicting opinions about how to fit a Crane for nullsec all around the internet, and I thought I'd bring the question here.

There are lots of fits, but you need the trick to go with it.

MWD + Covops Cloak.

  1. Jump thew the gate
  2. While cloaked look at where you are.
  3. Click MAX SPEED
  4. Wait 1/2 second)
  5. Click MWD + OverHeat
  6. Click Covops Cloak.

The following happens:

  • You decloak moving in a straight line.
  • Your MWD Turns on, accelerating you.
  • You Cloak. The MWD cycle finishes while you are cloaked.

This should get you far enough away from your spawn point that you can then align and warp off. I do this with MAX CARGO setups and it works pretty well.

Personally I would stick to the Cranes strengths for maximum survivability.

[Crane, Crane]

Nanofiber Internal Structure II

Nanofiber Internal Structure II

Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive

Invulnerability Field II

Invulnerability Field II

Small Shield Booster II

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II

Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints I

Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints I

However this will only leave you with 4,375m3 of cargohold.

You can switch out the lows and rigs with a combination of Expanded Cargo hold II's and a Medium Cargohold Optimisations if you need more Hauling space.

Be warned this will increase your align times significantly though, so unless you are sure you are gonna make it, or if you are going to be use portals rather than gates be wary.

Inertia stabs make you align faster than nanofiber. I would use one of each (so that I don’t get punished too hard “signature wise” ;)

Personally I would say the best way to fit a crane for null sec is not to. Cranes are great for lo sec runs where nothing will ever catch you. But if you take it to null eventually you will run into bubbles and any player worth is salt is seeding his bubbles with cans just to decloak you and you will die.

Lots of people fit an ECM Burst. If you're tackled you're dead, so it gives you one last chance to break lock and GTFO.

If they scramble you, what’s the point of having more tanking ? Lasting more to catch up with the gate ?

ECM burst…. Depends on what you are doing, in Hi-Sec it will get you Concorded, if you are in 0.0 and lowsec always, then maybe… but considering it has a range of 6km, and most people can scram you at 10km and point you at 20km you will have to be very lucky to be in range to use ECM burst to any sort of effect usefully. ECM burst should never be fitted to a ship, except for two very specific scenarios. Although I have to admit that A nullsec blocade runner it is almost viable, ultimately though due to range it has to be more useful to have more tank most of the time.
